Sky Fibre Optic

Came today, and she's in and working! Absolutely love it. I'll tidy it all up properly another time, but it doesn't get seen as it's under the stairs.

I picked it up for about £95, it's a lot for a router but it should last me a good few years. And yeah I'm running Merlin on it, setup was very easy actually.

Guys quick question, I have the Fiber Pro 80mb connection, currently getting around

Now is there any way I can get rid of that BT openreach modem? Hate the fact I have to boxes up on the counter

Any help would be great, Maybe get 2in1 Router?

cheers

Well if you're still wanting to use the Sky Router as per your picture, you can upgrade to their latest Router which is black as it has both devices built in to one. Not sure if they'll give it for free but you could ring up and say your current router just keeps powering itself off randomly and they will most likely send you a new model one. But the recommendation would be to ditch the Sky router, get a 56U or 66U from Asus and keep the Openreach modem out of sight

anyone ever got this with their Sky Fibre order? The activation date was scheduled on 10/4 and I only noticed this yesterday.

Your order was accepted on 31/03/2014

We are sorry there has been a delay with your order. We are working to progress your order however, if you are still seeing this message after five or more days,
please call the Sky Switch Squad on 08442 41 11 65.

Ok cool thanks!

So what's the benefits for the upgrade to the Asus Router?

thanks again

Hi guys, I'm due to get Fibre Pro next week, and wanted to ask some questions on replacing the SR102.

Am I correct in saying that I can buy a BT Open Reach modem from ebay and match it with an Asus RT-AC66U router.

I then need to extract the U/P from the SR102 and install a custom FW on the Asus (Merlin, DD-WRT, Tomato) and add the U/P fro the SR102?

Pretty much yes, using the Asus means you can reboot the router as often as you wish without rebooting the modem and DLM having a fit. Just follow the simple Wireshark tutorial to get the U/P - should take you 10 mins tops

Weird thing happened the other day. My downstream had gone from 76Mb/s to settling at around 53Mb/s and it's been around that for a few months. Powered on the modem and router after rearranging some cabling. Now it's 62Mb/s. I'm not complaining though :)

I kinda had the same issue, from before I was getting around 58mb down, and it dropped right down to 22mb, So reset the router tidy some cables, And was back up to 58mb down and 19mb up, Was really weird.

T least it's back to normal.

These days my download syncs at around 35000kbps, and yet I can download at 4.0mbps comfortably as of the last few weeks, which is great :)

My uploader however rarely syns at 7,500kbps and uploads about the same, which is only about 75% of the speed I should be getting.

Is anything other than distance likely to be the cause of this? When it was installed the engineer showed me the potential speeds on his little machine, the upload was way more than 10!

Anyone havaing issues with Sky tonight? Im on 38mbit fibre and my pings have been high on battlefield tonight (50+) and a hell of a lot of websites arent working (ie Sky's own website) yet certain ones such as the OCUK forums are fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Russ

Tried pinging different sites to see how long it takes packets to get through? You could also give some sites, like Sky, Google and OcUK, a tracert test to see if you're losing packets at a particular hop. It might help to show if there's a problem with the Sky network.

What DNS server settings do you use? Sky? OpenDNS?

And I'm on Sky and haven't noticed any issues with my fibre connection tonight.
