Sky Fibre Optic

I've checked and restarted everything a couple of times this morning already.

The modem is syncing at fibre speeds so I take that to mean I'm all patched correctly in at home, at the cabinet and at the exchange?

I'm just not being issued an IP address to the router so have no internet connection.

I've been with sky since November time and been getting a solid 4.5MB/s speeds. However I haven't been using it as much lately and when I have I've noticed the speeds topping out at 3-3.3MB/s. Have I been punished for easing off?? :O

Anyone got a clue if using the On Demand service on TV impacts the Fair Usage, or is there not one with Sky fibre unlimited? I remember reading there isn't but not sure if serious....

I have downloaded the entire 3 seasons of game of thrones (2GBish each), they must be crying at the exchange.

It's completely unlimited. No FUP.

6GB downloaded and you think the exchange will come to a hault? :p

That wouldn't of even tickled your copper line, let alone the fibre optics or exchange. :D

Most I've heard of at sky was 450GB a month but that is very much the exception. Most 'normal' customers use less than 50GB, some even less than 10GB. There are also some that manage to stay under the free 2GB allowance regularly.

I signed up for Fibre Pro the other day, had to specify it to the gentleman on the phone. But in the end he gave me 12 months free line rental and Fibre Pro at £30 so not too bad considering what I pay at the moment.

Just can't wait for it now. Going from 4.5Mb connection to 70 ish should be pretty nice. I'm also about 10 metres from the cabinet as well (longer line length obviously)

I have downloaded over a TB in a month on quite a few occasions

I was gonna say, once I get on a media rampage I can have a few 100+GB downloads going a week, plus watching youtube videos in 1080/1440, netflix, now sky on demand as well. All that can add up to hell of a lot.

My neighbour asked if he could use my internet today (I suspect he wanted the wifi password, not use of my pc). You could hear the tumbleweeds.:D

Can you use your own router with Sky these days? Seem to remember it not being possible in the past....?

I'm looking for a new ISP and I already have an Asus N66u and would prefer to use that if i could.

As i already have TV from Sky I'm looking to move phone and BB to them too....

(I'd be moving to the Fibre unlimited pro package)

I use my own N66U router instead of the Sky Hub/Router connected to the Openreach modem, you simply need to obtain your user/pass and add this as a startup script to the N66U (very simple) so that it passes the MER over.

However, I believe most new customers get the new Hub which has the modem/router built in to one device so that might scupper your plans if you're a new customer.
