Power supply not shielded so it keeps dropping out. It's a right pain in the arse.

My router would say otherwise?

System Up Time: 1169:43:35

The 66 hours was an outage at the exchange for a short period.

Yeah it's unshielded, but is there any proof it needs to be? The el-cheapo wall-warts that 90% of routers come with aren't exactly the pinnacle of engineering either.

I've had an SR101 since launch day and never had a problem, even in a building with 16 other wireless networks. It's far more reliable than the older Sky kit. It goes months between reboots and works flawlessly with Xbox live where the older ones needed periodic reboots to keep open NAT. 1322 hours and counting so far, last reset was after an Xbox Live outage to rule out any issues at my end for a league event.

Wireless networks are for light usage, anything more sensitive should be cabled. End of. My wireless at the old place used to drop when the upstairs neighbour used the microwave. If it's not that then substitute a cordless phone or a wireless doorbell. The 2.4GHz spectrum is a mess because it's unregulated.

I'm not that technically minded tbh but I remember reading an article about it where the guy took it apart, shielded it himself and tested again and said it was better. I can't find the article but currently trawling my 'tube history for the video.

I have the SR101 and quite often a page will take 3 seconds to start loading and is fine after that. I've narrowed the problem down as much as my knowledge/google will allow and my next step is to try the shielding method with a new unopened router on standby in case I mess up.

Just getting round to setting up my AC56U to work with my Sky fiber but not having much luck!!

I've got my username and password from the SR101 however can't see where to input it on the ASUS (Merlin build)

I go to the WAN page and guess I have to put it somewhere in the section for ISP special requirements?

Any help appreciated :)

Picked myself up a 4th gen AirPort Extreme from the bay for £20 today, got to be better than the SR101 (which can't be hard) range wise

Looming forward to testing it, once collected tomorrow

Cant help you specifically as I use DD-WRT but do a search on the SkyUser forum, plenty of guides there.

I'm using the latest Melrin build, 374.40.

Goto Advanced settings > WAN > Special Requirement from ISP

Add your sky username and password in here (Manual clientid (for some ISPs)) not forgetting to put them in single quotes, like 'username|password'

And change the DHCP query frequency to normal mode.

Hope this helps.

This might help, from mine:

Switching to sky soon from Virgin. This will be my first time with them and there Fiber.
I looking at getting there max 76MB can anyone tell me do you always get your Max speed?
I really dont want to switch from virgin but have no choice "new house" etc So going from 120MB what I get most of the time dropping to around 90MB in day time. 76MB will be fine so long as I keep getting it... Last time I had a internet down phone line was years ago with BT and I never used to get full speed, so this has me worried.

first things first do you know how far away you are from your cabinet ? and if not try and find out. best thing to do is find it and then try and track the route it takes on the poles to where you live,

for example im roughly 300 meters away via the poles about 200 meters in a straight line and im expecting mid 50's (getting activated today).

Eurgh.. anyone in the Manchester area had troubles with Sky Fiber this weekend? It was horrid on Friday night and its started to play up again now.

Guys, When accessing the router Via IP Address
192.168.0.1 - Does anyone else's take about 5 mins to access the page?

Also been getting some terrible speeds!!! I'm on the Fiber pro, and average connection for me is around 58mb down and 19mb up. but lately I'm lucky if I ever get 25down!

Any ideas? I've contacted them and they have say it would be the CAB, so engineer is attending.. just wondered if anyone else has had this..
