Sky Fibre Optic

Best way to check your speed is to either ask sky or check online. I've seen Fibre speeds of 80 Meg and less than 5 Meg so it varies.

As Sky Fibre is now 'self setup' there's no reason why you can't just leave it the way it is. You may not get the full speed unless you're in the master socket, but if your line can support more than 38 then you'll likely get the full 38. Actually more like 40. 38 is the advertised speed.

well living in a smallish village in norfolk wasnt sure if i'd get fttc for at least another couple of years but low and behold the cab went in around feb and its now gone live

i use to get around 15 download now as you can see much better especially upload which was around 1

Had mine installed in a small village on 25th February. Here it is (using a Billion 8800AXL router) as of this morning:

Just put your number or address in here and you'll get a good estimate.

Hey thanks.

From that website it supports 80Mbps!

That's great news then, I will do this if it is indeed self setup!

Props to Sky for starting to offer their existing customer base some half-decent deals!

I received a letter a few days ago about Sky TV and Talk changes. I saw the note about having 30 days notice to cancel if not happy, it made no odds to me (my TV costs weren't changed) but I chanced it on live chat with them anyway...

All I did was query if I was able to cancel within the 30d period and straight away was offered 10% off TV, £10 off my Fibre Pro and £9.99 line rental for 12 months - along with a £100 credit to my account!

Can't complain, well done Sky. :)

P.S. This is after being told historically they never do deals or discounts on the Fibre Pro package as well...

Sparx, how did you manage that? When i go to live chat they just palm me off to ring a phone number to talk about it.

As I said, literally hopped onto live chat and quoted the 30 day cancellation period with the Sky Talk and TV changes (although TV didn't effect my package) from the letter they sent.

The first response was the offer I mentioned, I tried pushing for any other extras but that was the best he had.

Both http and https work from here (Plusnet with Google DNS).

Just typing rottentomatoes.com into the address bar defaults to the http version.
OK so with the long weekend I had a look at fixing this yesterday. The Rotten Tomatoes site will load but it takes ages and when it does load the site is rendered without CSS. I've had a quick look at the page source and have found a link to a CSS file, stored on a Cloudfront page. I can load the CSS file fine.

On my phone the mobile site renders fine but I can't work out how to turn 3G off and go through wireless. I use a Vodafone SureSignal device anyway so it's likely that my 3G signal is coming through my broadband connection anyway.

I got my MBP out and tried the site. On my wireless connection it loads fine and when I turn the wireless off and use the Thunderbolt network adapter to connect the MBP to my desktop switch, same switch as my PC is connected to, again the site renders fine.

I did try taking my Asus RT-N66U out of the loop by replacing it temporarily with my original Sky Sagem box in but my PC couldn't find a network connection!

Surely the fact that my MBP can render the site fine on both wired and wireless connections to the same switch as my PC (wired) and same Asus device (wireless) implies that the PC is where the problem is? What settings on my PC can I reset or flush to try to solve this irritating issue?

similar - I was asking for a MAC code to potentially move to plusnet as fibre has just gone live this week in my street. Just secured the following:

Sky fibre pro - £20 for 12 months (was on £7.50 ADSL), £9.99 line rental for 10 months, 40% off TV, 50% off multiroom, Free activation and free sky hub 2.0, £100 credit on my account as well. All via chat - took about an hour but sat with the football on and a coffee!!

Can a Sky fibre user please tell me, do I just need the sky hub for fibre or do I also need an openreach fibre modem? My activation is today, my old modem has stopped working but my new sky hub doesn't either, trouble shooting mentions this openreach modem that I haven't got.

Random suggestion regarding sky speed issues. While I work for BT, this one's just something I caught in passing talking to a colleague (I'm going to Virgin, so hopefully helps dissolve a little thought's about bias. I'm a contractor too so no share worries :p ).

Sky won't guarantee speed, BT do. While I was at my previous address (middle of Sheffield suburb) I never failed to get the 73Mb my line could support.

In my experience sky are shocking for broadband unless it's fibre pro.
I've had fibre pro for 5 years and its always been brilliant, plus theyre the only main provider without a traffic management policy :)

so recently got fibre and due to the location of my phone socket and router hd to use a wireless bridge which wasnt ideal. However this weekend i managed to get so weatherproof cat 6 delivered and some gigabit switches and some surge protection and have to admit its really helped out my connection before it was all over the place now its rock steady a you can see below much improved over my previous results
