Sky Fibre Optic

The engineers been at my cousins house for almost 45 mins, he has asked him if he has a job here next and hes confirmed he has... so he should be here within the next 15 mins or so.

No it doesn't make any sense at all. Openreach are a seperate division so they'll still get paid their chunk no matter what ISP requests them to do the work. Since they're getting paid regardless, why would they care which ISP the money is coming from?

BT were forced to be broken up and if they were to give BT Retail any form of priority they would be in trouble as it defeats the purpose of them being broken up in the first place.

Ok, I see your point.

But who owns BT Retail and who owns BT Openreach?
Are they owned by the same company?

Just had my new box arrive in the post, what's the difference? it looks EXACTLY the same as the regular broadband box lol!

Can't even see a model number on it to compare, almost wondered if they had sent me the wrong box :p

Engineers just left, internet is finally on after weeks! He left my cousins house and didn't arrive here until around 40 mins later and I'll be honest, I thought he had done one. :o Just done a quick test and it was 33 meg download, 1.6 upload. Tested again, it was 37 meg download and 1.7 up, so it's a bit up and down at the moment but working which is the main thing.

They're both owned by BT plc., but they are separate companies. Think of Currys/PC World - they're all owned by Dixons plc.; if you bought something in Currys would you try to take it back to PC World? I think not.

Well my activation is Monday and my router has still not arrived.

After a telephone conversation there is apparently a 'software' glitch that means some people wont receive their routers until 5 days after its been activated.

Ok so I've had sky fibre optic for a few hours now. Online gaming seemed good, download speeds seem good so overall I'm quite pleased, but is it just me or is the wifi range on the sky router absolutely rubbish?

Whats the furthest you can pick a connecttionn up?

At the moment I'm in the next room to where the router is and I'm only getting 1 bar signal on my phone, when previously it was always a full 3 bars.

That's manure.

I dont know how i'm going to manage with 4-5 walls between me and the router :( Probably no signal at all

lol, you can do this tho

I can certainly see your point, but would it not be within the realms of possibility, that subsidiary company 1, could be asked to assist (or favour) subsidiary company 2?

I'm not saying that this is happening with BT (Openreach and Retail), but it is a possibility. Obviously we need some anecdotal evidence - yesterday's example showed that both Sky and BT customer's were dealt with as promised.

Just type 'sky router wifi range' into google when you have some time and have a read, it pretty much sums it up. I am gonna make my own DIY signal booster today to see if that helps, as long as I can get a decent signal all around the house I'll be happy. My brother (who works for Sky) is fuming, from his room he barely gets a signal at all, he was like 'no wonder so many people ring in to complain about that pile of **** router'. :p

I'm planning on digging out my old spare Sky Netgear router and setting it up in a different area of the house on a different wifi channel and connecting it in via a homeplug adapter.

Total agree though the wifi range is pants.

At my parents I have setup WG602 in repeater mode about 4 years ago, been working pretty well. Only starting to struggle now, so thinking of getting another cheap WG602 or having a look at something else.

Had people mention Billion for a decent Wifi router/AP etc.

Just ordered :D!

After trying in vain (4 times) to get the installation fee waived, I was transferred to India and they processed the...process. 1st June installation date (2 weeks) and agreed to transfer my number so all good on that front.

Rang o2 who were understanding and said they are trial'ing fibre now but realise people don't like to wait. Sadly they then said they'll send a box for the o2 router, oops :p.
