Sky Fibre Optic

Its not as simple as that.
SKY offer truly unlimited FTTC. BT Infinity will throttle and prevent you from using your internet in a completely free way.

The obvious example is packet shaping of torrent downloads. Another thing is throttling the connection during peak hours (I think BT have done away with this one, though not sure).

SKY is truly unlimited. BT Infinity is unlimited, but with packet shaping on certain data.

I would opt for SKY.

Had my BTO install today. Engineer phoned 10 mins before turning up to let me know he was on his way. Took about 45 minutes total for cab work and new master socket. Can't say anything about wireless performance of Sky's router as my wireless is by virtue of an Apple Airport Extreme. Speed test below:

can u plug the bt fttc modem into the apple gear and not bother with the sky pos, as I have a time capsule and I'm not using the sky router unless i have to

Yes, requires a bit of hacking though, Google it or search this thread.

Well missus just rang, BT guy turned up at about 11:30am and did his bit. I had selected the 22nd as my install date but not long after that i got an email saying he'd be installing on the 24th so it was a bit unexpected that he'd be turning up today. Not that i'm complaining :D

yes B,T have done away with the UserPolicy and only throttle p2p and only if your in a busy area :) I think that if Sky start to get more and more customers thing might change like they did with Virgin Media ,i noticed they are throttleing p2p and even Newsgroups now , maybe i,m wrong ?

I currently have Sky Unlimited LLU. I pay the £7.50 for it and am considering upgrading to FTTC at £20. My question to those that have already done this, how smooth was the swap over, any downtime etc, the reason I ask is that someone often works from the house with a VPN phone and TS session to the office and would need to ensure if there is any downtime they are not at home during that period.

Sky have done an unmanaged/no throttling/BS service for years now with ADSL and the busier they got, they still stood by the truly unlimited stance.

It was seamless. The BT guy comes, installs it, and you're done. We had phone line transitioned as well, with zero down time.

Do sky allow their customers static IPs by request? (At extra cost no doubt obviously though)

No. Use DynDNS and a router that supports updating it and just use a hostname.

wohoo home at last and on speedy fast interwebz!

BT man said we're the first sky customer on our exchange to be installed as there's only him and one other guy doing the installations in our town, and he's only done BT or a couple of a talktalk ones so far :D

EDIT: fair play downloading from steam at 4.2mb/s is satisfying to say the least!

Do sky have a form of interleaving on their FTTC product?

ring them and ask asap, there's a 2 week wait with sky before they seem to do anything so getting the ball rolling ready for the availability date is always a good idea. That said, there's also a chance the activation date in your area is wrong, so it's worth ringing BT to find out too.

EDIT: and i mean wrong in both directions, my exchanges RFS date is the 30th of June, yet a small area of where i live can currently get it already (luckily where i live *megagrin* whereas the rest can't for another month or so)

My Sky fibre install date was the best part of three weeks from the order date. I think someone said earlier in the thread that Sky can't take fibre orders over the phone at the moment.
