Sky Fibre Optic

Finally Fibre is enabled at my exchange, i have just seen this (see below) on sky website. Does this mean that i don't have to get mac code from current broadband provider and sky will do every thing for me?

Switching to Sky Broadband

* When you switch your broadband, calls and line rental to Sky, there's no need to contact your existing provider. We'll manage the switching for you, and you should be able to keep your existing phone number

Does that mean sky will send an engineer to do a physical install of a new phone line or will they uses BT's existing phone line, which is routed into the house?

Just had Sky Fibre installed, is there any particular reason why my speeds are a bit below what was quoted? The BTO engineer did a test at the master socket and was getting 40Mb/s down and 2Mb/s up, but it seems to be a bit lower when tested on speedtest, using the main computer that is connected to the router via ethernet.

The speeds are slower still on my PC upstairs that is connected wirelessly to the router, I'm getting something like 23Mb/s down and 1.7Mb/s up. Is there anything I can do to improve both the above results or is that the best I can hope for?

Bit disappointed to be honest as I was getting 22Mb/s down on my main PC upstairs on Sky's regular broadband.

Speedtest isn't the most accurate. Check your connection speed, if it's 39999mbps (or there abouts) then that's it.

Sorry to sound dim, but how do I check my connection speed?

Also, I was hoping for some improvement on my download speeds. Using Jdownloader I'm getting about 2.5mbps, whereas before I was getting something like 1.6mbps, so it is an improvement, it's just I've seen people on Fibre getting 4mbps so I was hoping to have something a bit higher.

I hear there is a known issue that is being looked in to,
I dont have fibre and i dont work as part of the fibre team so i cant comment on this much.

But to check the sync speed login to the router page
Code:
http://192.168.0.1
Username = admin
Password = sky
Sync speed will be listed there.

I didn't have to get a mac code but I had to phone up my last provider to cancel.

Downstream connection speed is showing as 39999kbps as you said, and upload as 2000kbps, so everything seems to be correct. Is the lack of any major improvement on my wireless PC most likely going to be due to the poor router Sky provide? I've got a fairly decent N wireless PCI-e card in my PC, so I'm guessing it's probably their router?

The main PC downstairs is connected via ethernet and that's still not quite as quick as I had hoped, but it is quicker than the wirelessly connected PC upstairs. I guess I could buy a wireless extender to try to improve the connection on the upstairs PC.
