Sky Fibre Optic

The main PC downstairs is connected via ethernet and that's still not quite as quick as I had hoped, but it is quicker than the wirelessly connected PC upstairs. I guess I could buy a wireless extender to try to improve the connection on the upstairs PC.

In guessing its your anti virus. Boot to safe mode in windows and try again

Update on my progress! Ordered 8 days ago (Somewhere several pages back) and am now just 6 long days away from 40/2! Yesterday o2 finally gave me my MAC code (To be fair they've been very understanding over me leaving, and although they did try to tell me they are trialing fibre, they understood I was sick of waiting!). So I rang Sky, spent 25 MINUTES on hold which really really ****ed me off, only to be reconnected to the original woman who then said my friend who sits next to me can do this for you (-_-).

Anyway, she puts me through and lo and behold, even though I was told explicitly that I needed a MAC code (Despite my explaining that I wouldn't), the new woman said oh yeah we don't need that, thanks anyway. ARGH.

Anyway, just had an email from Sky to say that they have sent my router, I asked about this on the phone yesterday so not sure if that pushed the process along...

Get mine Friday, looking forward to it, but need to look into a new wireless AP I think as wireless is proving poor these days.

We'll see what happens Friday first etc.

Just hope my Vodafone Sure Signal works afterwards etc.

May also look into an alternate router if poss

Does anyone know when will sky rollout fibre optic in essex? Already cancelled my virgin, got 2 weeks left with them. My sky broadband is being install on the 7/06.

I'm getting sick of VM especially customer service. They tried to convince me to stay by give me a special rate same rate they're giving to new customer and I've been with them for 8 years.

suppose to be getting 100mb but today is

ohh I C.. they are still not selling that package though right? just for some lucky trialist's

They are selling, just not on the web. You have ask over the phone.

Anyway speeds are up, 30/17 wireless. But im going for an ethernet connectection via the home plug so hopefully it'll increase even furhter. Downloaded over 100gb, steam games, over the last 36 hours and no complaints yet.

How much is the 80mb package compared to the 40mb package? A friend recently had FTTC enabled on his cabinet and is interested in it. Will also take phone and TV with it as well.

(I'm in Hull for uni)
Whereabouts in essex?

Where I live CO3 postcode, the best broadband we can get is 1-5Mbps (we get 4) and the only other option currently is Virgin. I've searched my postcode and virgin media forums and there is only one thread about slow speeds and it was 2 years ago.

So we are switching to Virgin soon. Is it really that bad?

I am sure you chaps have seen on the skyforums the representative from Sky has said that Fibre Pro is indeed coming in mid-june :D for everyone.

Will we need new equipment? or is what we have fine? So far I am loving the extra bandwidth.

Apparently it is going to be £30/ month compared to BT Infinity 2 (80mb package) which is £26/month (currently on offer for £20/month for first 3 months)

You have to take into account that BT does "manage" its P2P activity so not a truly unlimited product.
