Sky Fibre Optic

Anybody seen any posts or heard anything from a solid (Preferably Sky) source with regards to the upload going up to 10 on the 40/2 package?

I've heard about 100 people say "Sky have said they will update this next month" and another 100 say "Sky have said they're not allowed to do 10 upload as it will kick BT's service's ass" which seems like it would be illegal as per the whole competition rules and what not (Though I have no idea). Also another 100 claim it will be a £25 pm option, which seems like it would be a bad image for Sky.

Anybody? I don't mind 40/2 (Hell, I'm going to love it compared to 6/1!) but I wouldn't object to a free upgrade :p.

Ports do not need to be opened.

It's cheaper for them to offer 40/2. Maybe they want to keep it simple by only offering two packages?

Depends if you're using upnp etc. The way I have my router configured is upnp is off and the Vodafone SS on a DHCP reserved address with the firewall configured to the needs of the SS device.

All I had heard regarding BT/Sky fibre is that there is a potential MTU issue. I'll wait until Friday and will confirm whether it works or not etc.

I've setup multiple Sure Signal devices but never had to port forward or enable uPNP. It was literally plug and play apart from adding the odd DHCP reservation.

I think it all depends on your router/firewall config.

I've also setup a few with Netgear routers and yup plug and go.

Router arrived today ahead of Friday's install, Sagem model with no external antennas so not expecting much in terms of signal. Disappointing really as I know the difficulties I had in the past prising the Sky username & password out of the router in order to use my own on. Guess I'll wait and see what it's like on Friday.

For anyone else interested, it was sent Monday and arrived today, RM 1st class tracked (Not signed for).

I just wanted to run through some costs and make sure I have this correct:

installation: £50
monthly fee: £20
Line Rental montly: £12.25

So, to summarise:
up-front fee: £50 startup cost
monthly cost: £32.25
12 month contract

Have I got this right?

Likewise i'm an existing customer and didn't have to pay any setup.

Did you have a landline previously?

seems like I'm having the dreaded half throughput issue as soooooooooooo many others on sky fibre..grrrrrr

Just give it a few days, it's to make things more stable longer term.

I found their new router to be a LOT better than their old old one I had that only did 54MBit wifi (white one from 3-4 years ago)

Does the BT device that is installed need power as I'm short on power near the master socket - install due tomorrow :D

No setup fee for me
