Sky Fibre Optic

Yes it needs power but it draws very little current so just use a double/triple adaptor socket or gang lead.

Fingers crossed then, looks like I might in time have to get another plug installed near the master socket or have the phone socket moved, which I think I'll prefer..

Apparently Sky are now blocking TPB.

Im on O2/Be, and I can still get TPB.
Can a SKY customer verify that this is true?

I really don't like the idea of ISPs blocking sites.
By all means put some form of warning, before the user enters the site, but to block it completely - that doesn't sit well with me.

they were ordered to by the court, so yeah they have to unfortunately, sky, BT, Orange and someone else I think were ordered to

No great loss TBH and I'm all for sites being blocked

o2 are also enforcing the ban in a few weeks, there's more than enough articles about it on the BBC.

Time to ban 1 site = months / years of legal work
Time TPB took to open up a mirror site = 1 hour

---

Anyway, today's my install day! Tried to get o2 to push back the cut off point in case BTO don't turn up but they wouldn't / couldn't, so I'm praying BTO turn up when they say (8-1). Went out last night and only got in a few hours ago (feeling very rough because of it) and the Olympic torch is coming through my town at about 11.

In short BT, much rage will be caused if you fob me off :p

One final speed test on my still thankfully working o2 (Router says 5569/1123):

Me too :D

Yup BT haven't got the best rep for it. I had a massive prob with BT when I when I first moved in, they screwed up my bills, connections and everything. Of course it's always the customer's fault....

What sort of speed can I expect if I upgrade to Sky FFTC based on being 3.25km from the exchange.

it depends.

The distance is now based on your home to the cabinet not the exchange.. if you cabinet is in your street you should get full speed depending how far it is away.

Well I've missed the Olympic torch passing through :( Still no word from BT but still got just under 2 hours in the allotted time frame so still hoping he appears sometime soon, maybe I can catch the torch leaving :p

mine came on weds with like 20mins to spare, i was this close to calling sky lol

After o2 refused to extend my cancellation as a contingency (Which makes no sense to me, that's like saying "No, you MUST leave paying customer") I really panicked, the thought of getting another callout around Jubilee time made me forsee a 3 week cut off from the outside internet world :p

Anyway, he arrived with around an hour to spare, nice chap who I think had had a long day already from the sounds of it, mid 50's but seemed really knowledgable about the whole system. Got him to check our phone sockets and help me figure out a few things and explained some of the unusual wiring to me.

Anyway, onto the bit anybody really cares about!

Not quite hitting the max but then this is day 0! Sky router shows the following:
DownStream Connection Speed 38175 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 1999 kbps
So obviously the upload is capped which is fine, though I'm hoping the download rejigs a bit during the adjustment period, though I can certainly make do :p

Also asked him about my max rate, he said the device he uses tells you the current sync speed leaving the cabinet and the max attainable, said it's currently outputting at a full 40/2 with an attainable of 115/35 should that every be allowed. A mouth watering thought :D.

Very happy anyway, the Sky router seems a bit unresponsive but I'm hoping that's just Opera adjusting to the 192 address changing and all the stored credentials being wrong.

Time for some torrents!

Well the chap has just gone and I'm getting 9Mbps - mmmm will see what it does over the next 24 hours and then I'll start to make some calls and do some further tests etc.

What does the router report?

Will log on to it in a bit, just tidying things up after the chap came and also got to pop out.

Need to get onto router any to change wireless, lan settings, dhcp reservations etc.

I'm going to change from virgin to sky for tv, so thought I see if I could get infinity. Seems I can but it says 26.2Mb I though infinity was at least 40Mb?

What's the username for the router as the BT engineer left with the password cards - wtf

I can see the passwords stamped on the back of the router, but not the username.

If you mean the base username it's admin? password is sky
