Sky Fibre Optic

My ping times are shocking and the speeds are all over the place according to speedtest.net

Should I be waiting for 10 days to see if it all settles down?

Have you tried using the sky router and running the speed test?

No but I thought you might say that just putting it back on now :D

Will report back shortly

UPDATE: Appears to have the same issue using the Sky router

I don't dispute it but in what way? :p

I was intent on buying the Billion as I didn't hear great things about the Sagecom Sky router but since installing it I've not come across any problems.

My setup is quite basic though, consisting of 1 desktop PC wired, 1 desktop PC wireless, 2 laptops wireless, 2 phones, 1 tablet, 2 consoles, wireless network printer, wireless internet radio, Sky HD box and a WD TV Live wired. Not all in use at the same time though :)

Gigabit LAN would be nice but I'm buying a cheap switch for that.

Something is definitely wrong.

If you call SKY they are likely to tell you to wait 10 days. Whether or not this will cure the problem is not clear.

If I were you, I would keep the SKY router attached for the next 10 days, so that when you call them and begin trouble shooting, they will go through different settings on their router.

The moment you tell them that you are using your own router, they are likely to tell you that this is the reason why your internet connection is malfunctioning.

My pings are near identical to what they were on day1, compared with now. Nothing changed within the first 10 days.

I can only suggest that you wait 10 days before raising a ticket with SKY.

Sorry my mistake.
Yes - switch.
It has been rock solid since day 1.
I think I got it about 3 months back.
And yes, that is the one I bought.

Thanks :) Looks pretty good for the price. Do you just connect all of your devices to it and use one connection to the router?

That's sound advice, I have put the Sky unit back on last night and will leave it now until next weekend, and see how it settles in and take it from there

Many thanks
