Sky Fibre Optic

Thanks :) Looks pretty good for the price. Do you just connect all of your devices to it and use one connection to the router?

BT modem connects to SKY Router.
Sky router connects to switch.
Everything connects to the switch.
There is no other connection on the SKY router.

No other software settings to change. Just plug and play.
Works simply, without issue.

How are people finding the new sky routers?

Had put my billion 7800n in straight away but put the Skyt one back as I may have a few issues, seems to be performing well so far but hard to tell with the 10 day profile period under way at the moment ....

Just been told my Sky fibre has been activated on the wrong number, it appears to have gone live before my correct number was ported into the new property....

Guy on the phone said this could be why the connect and ping is bad? I'm not sure I trust that but will have to get number sorted first before I can raise a fault call..

That sounds very odd...but then we must trust SKY in what they have said.

How does the SKY router perform - no problems. Does exactly what it is supposed to do, though I havent used it for Wireless connections.

Excellent, thanks.

Have they told you what speeds they can provide you with?
If it is 40Mbps (or there abouts), it's fibre.
It says 40Mbps on the website.
Your friend is probably talking about the difference between FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) and FTTH (fibre to the home) - see http://www.thinkbroadband.com/guide/fibre-broadband.html
Ah, thanks mate that clears it up.

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial check on your address indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 2Mbps.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 5.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 4Mbps and 8Mbps.

Our check also indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL2+ broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 2Mbps.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 7Mbps; Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 1Mbps and downstream line speed of 7Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 4.5Mbps and 11Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 39.9 Mbps and upstream line speed of 6.5 Mbps.
So what does that mean? :o
Sky Fibre Optic would only be an extra £20 so I am leaning towards that but I just want the fastest and most reliable.

Try signing up to SKY, on their website.
If it doesnt let you, then call them and sign up over the phone.
The service you are after is 'Fibre' or FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet). Typically, the download speed is 40Mbps.

I went from ADSL (where my speed fluctuated on almost a daily basis...anywhere from 3Mbps), to SKY FTTC (where my speed has held steady at 40Mbps).

I think the upgrade was worth it - both in terms of outright speed AND reliability (ie. no dropped connections and resyncing).

Sunama,
The sky site gives me the option to get their Fibre. Will order that now I think as it seems the best option!

Thanks guys. Is it necessary to change the router or is the standard one ok?

So it looks like I finally have another option and looking to move away from BT vision.
Essentially I'm paying for freeview and good internet - the BT vision package is woeful.

Can anyone recommend a TV/Fibre optic package, no more than £50 a month with Sky, NO Sport channels needed. (I've never had Sky so have no clue what to look for)

Claim wasn't tracked. Eventually got it tracked for it to be later rejected.
Apparently Sky won't pay Quidco for flat installs

That doesn't seem fair. I was quite lucky with quidco in that my order had to be cancelled and restarted over the phone yet I still got my cashback. Sometimes with other retailers, my quidco has been declined for no reason.
