Sky Fibre Optic

I wouldn't, the equipment might see it as unable to cope...

OK will leave it alone, thanks. Am I likely to be stuck with lower speed now?

It all seems a bit odd as I didn't have any disconnections at 76,337 for over 10 days before I rebooted the router.

Claim wasn't tracked. Eventually got it tracked for it to be later rejected.
Apparently Sky won't pay Quidco for flat installs

It does say in pretty large letters on the quidco page:
Customers living in a block of 4 or more flats and/or if any installation is made by a specialist team and not Sky, cashback will not be awarded.

Is the cost to install a communal dish in the thousands, then?
Surely the more people using the dish, the more cost effective a one dish communal install is too.
Where exactly is the logic in not paying the cashback in this scenario? :)

Because usually an independent contractor does the install and manages the communal dish and I guess Sky have to pay them for it - I keep getting leaflets from 'Love Digital TV' who apparently do the installs in this block. If they have to pay somebody else, I guess that Quidco money gets eaten up.

exactly this, a third party installer will cost sky hundreds for one install, that's why houses above 2 floors are always classed differently.

On my old property we had to get the 'heights' team in even though it was just 2 floors since the dish could not be installed on the side of the house and had to go up on the roof. the installer was telling me all about his 'profits' from Sky but they certainly earn it - massively dangerous job.

Just retried checking if Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro or BT infinity 2 is in my area, forgot how tedious and difficult it is to find it.... each time I sign up to infinity 2 via BT site it just says yeah everything is find click to sign up and am looking at the basket and it says Infinity on its own not infinity 2 ! lol

Skys worser you gotta fone them up just to check, pretty sure Ill know what the answer is to that.

Does anyone have any map or info on when the 70meg+ or Pro/Infinity 2 services will hit certain areas of UK cos google just shows infinity 1 or sky fiber 1 everywhere ?

I posted earlier that my sync rate on Pro has dropped from 76 to 68.

Would that drop, if due to more connections to my cab or otherwise, also be reflected in the max attainable rate when looking at the modem via telnet?

Crosstalk usually causes the max attainable to drop.

Thanks KIA. So my drop in speed is not due to crosstalk given that my max attainable rate now is 81028 Kbps but I'm syncing at 68768 Kbps, whereas before Pro my max attainable rate was 76344 Kbps and my sync speed was 76337 Kbps.

I'm just trying to find the cause of my speed drop and if there is anything I can do about it.

Anybody tried getting Fibre pro thrown in for free recently? I'm on standard Sky fibre which is fine, but BT's prices are a bit more competitive now...

I'd never consider changing because our whole house is with Sky and I need the unlimited side but...Sky don't have to know that!

thx, there better checkers. Guess going on there main sites shows slightly different things, at least with these checkers I can see I am only bt infinity 1 or sky fiber 1, no 2s or pros yet for my area.

Guess no one knows when other areas in uk will get to have sky pro/bt infinity 2 services ?

Use the BT wholesale checker and tell us the result. If it predicts something like 40/10, you're too far from the cab & won't see an 80/20 speed estimate. Nothing to do with it not being in your area.

thanks for the info, I am on o2 bb get roughly 14meg broadband speeds:

Ive copied and pasted the wholesale checker:

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 2Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 5.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 4Mbps and 8Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL2+ broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 2Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 7.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 5.5Mbps and 12Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 1Mbps and downstream line speed of 7.5Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 5.5Mbps and 12Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 33.6Mbps and upstream line speed of 5.8Mbps.

Actual sync speed might be a bit higher than 33.6/5.8 if you're lucky. You can still order BT Infinity up to 80/20 to get the unlimited bandwidth. Sky is also an option.

I've got a question for you fibre guru's:

Currently, I have Sky Unlimited Broadband (upto 20Mbit) and I connect at around 6 to 8Mbit due to line quality and distance from the exchange.

When fibre is made available on my exchange (scheduled date is Dec 2012), will my speed increase or will I have the same issue as I currently have where the distance from the exchange and line quality will limit my download and upload speeds effectively making anything faster than I currently have not worth it?

Would be great if someone could clear this up for me :)

Thanks!
