Sky Fibre Optic

spoke to sky other night and they said it was my cables? I am plugged into master socket and its been great up until 2 weeks ago and some nights its ok and come 10pm its normally back to good!

Looks like exchange congestion. Report it on their forum.

Must be exchange congestion right? when I get Fibre this better stop or am not going to be happy and will be looking for a new ISP.

spoke at length other night to a sky bod said my line stats all over the place and that was the problem, clearly its not and it doesn't help that upon reporting it I am now connecting at the highest I ever have hence slightly fluctuating stats!

pretty annoyed as gaming impossible!

Meh, was looking forward for my line to get activated, the BT Fibre checker now says 31st March 2013 :( it said 31st December 2012 a few weeks ago.

Had my fibre installed on the 18th but....

Whenever its been left idle overnight, the last 2 nights, it has lost dsl signal and wont reconnect.

The fix for this i found is to call your phone from mobile and this brings the dsl signal back and the dial tone on the phone, then restart the sky hub.

What is going on here and anyone know a permanent fix for this or i will probably have to call sky.

Is this anything to do with the 10 days line stabilising thing?, but surely it shouldn't just keep dropping connection and the phone losing dial tone?

Almost seems like they are doing maintenance where they disconnect my line when its idle then reconnect it when its called etc, trying to keep their capacity on the active lines while working on the rest?

BT Engineer just left. I am consistently hitting Just over 37 down 9 up on speedtest.net with pings around 14. He did say there was about 50 other people connected to the cabinet and it was an old style. He said things would improve if they update the cabinet in the future.

He's talking nonsense. ;p

Line completely dead now :(, reported to sky and 72hrs max for a fix, wonder how realistic that is gonna prove to be?

Also can anyone point me to a fibre line stats guide, i had max 40mb download but only 7.5 upload? can i tell line stats from this and work out what my max download would be on fibre pro?

ps. Are openreach supposed to have installed a box on the outside wall when the line comes in, wasnt here for the install but was told they didnt put anything outside

7.5 upload is fine and is what is to be expected.
I think I get something like 8.5Mbps upload.

What speed does the SKY website indicate you will get for 'Pro'?

The outside wall of your property? I think you must be thinking of FTTH where the fibre is run all the way to your property instead of to the local cab, and copper wire to your property - which is where any loss will come from depending on the distance.

If it's a new build property Openreach will often install an External NTE that is on the outside of the property. This gives the Openreach Engineer access to the termination point without having to go into the house. he can then check the line from that point and if it's OK from there then the fault is internal and nothing to do with them.

There's an Openreach document about it here.

Openreach engineer just away,

Ran to the room I wanted too, went up through the loft so that the cable is hidden, synced at 40/10

should have went with Fibre Pro as im about 100ft away from the cab.

Happy enough at the minute!

Well i'm down to 10mb down 5.6mb up. Will wait till after xmas before calling again. Not exactly sure what they can do as have had 2 engineers out in last week, first one left it was 18mb down the constant disconnects down to 13. 2nd engineer left it at 15mb down but dusconnected down to 10000 exactly. Both engineers said line was ok but there was a lot of noise. Appears as if they dont want to or cant actually sort it. And to think I couldnt wait to get my fibre installed!

Since putting the order in for Fibre my normal broadband has become abysmal... constant disconnections and awful speeds. Looking forward to Friday! (Until they see a new phone line is needed).

Had my Sky Fibre installed today, full 40/10 sync, Openreach engineer was really good. WAY better than Virgin Media, YouTube actually works for a start!

Will definitely be upgrading to Pro ASAP (I tried today but apparently they can't process it until the order is showing as complete on their system):

Using my AirPort Extreme too, the Sky Hub is back in the box ;)
