Sky Fibre Optic

Anyone else suffering from the recent connection drop-outs?

Randomly disconnecting, lights are on the modem/router but no connection. Reading around seems like BT botched some sort of firmware upgrade.

My internet is fine, right now.
Though I have had 3 occasions in the last 3 months, where I completely lose my internet for about 12 hours. This usually happens from in the evening, after 5:30pm and is back before 9am the following day.

Just five more days of this to endure:

Then hopefully I'll be able to stream a standard definition YouTube video without buffering every 0.5 seconds :D

Also ordered the Netgear XAVB5004 for hooking up my Xbox/Bluray/HTPC/Amp downstairs.

Can't wait til Friday haha

Will Virgin improve? I’m on “Be” and happy just now with the 5-8 Mbs download as its just used by the TV for I-player and PC browsing and email.

New PC later in the year for ARMA III, DAYZ standalone, Sim City and later Elite has got me interested in games again. So I want to ramp up my speed.

I’ve had both Sky and Virgin in the past so the cable is all there but dropped them both for mucking me about and poor service years ago. I feel as Virgin is cable in to the house it’s a better option for games but not too sure now after reading things on site after site.

I thought my vDSL modem was broken!

Any links to more explanation on the problem?

More here

Nothing official, though the Sky tech guy on the phone seemed to know that people were having problems. He did suggest to reset the Sky router.

My connection has been stable today after yesterdays drop-outs though, might be lucky or they actually did something about it.

Oh that would be hand I get in from work at 1730, lol bet your well happpy

I'm supposed to get connected on the 21st January. How late do Sky tend to send out the router? I'm getting a little bit worried.

I'm not getting too excited about it as I keep hearing horror stories about Openreach not turning up to appointment. I won't be happy if it happens to me next week. It will already be 1 month from order-activation.

The stories on the Sky forum about 'half speeds' (and sometime less) are also slightly worrying. How common is this? I'm due to get 30Mbps max.

You should be able to logon to MySky section of the site to check your order status (which includes shipping of the router). I think they're generally sent out a week before the install date.

Not heard about BT not showing up - but i'm taking this Friday off work for my install - will let you know how it goes!

I probably already know the answer to this but when moving house is it the same 2 week time span to get sky fibre up and running again apply as if you were getting it new?

Does anyone know if there's a way of paying to have this service sped up?

I was cheeky and had my phone line activated the day I moved to my new house, then had a 5 day wait for BTO to come and put the box in
