Sky Fibre Optic

great and to think im looking at jumping to sky when they finally get in my exchange sometime in the next 3 months.

im with bt atm so probably wont notice the change with the support staff.

Hi All,

Just had a random chat with Sky (no surprise) but I could be wrong so wanted to check...

Regarding the installation, do Sky put in a fibre cable to the flat? or is it to the exchange and then the standard telephone connection to the property?

Ignore this, just actually googled it myself and can see depending on the socket they may replace this or just need to plug the router in

Looks good but shame its not ready for statics

Can you monitor my connection if I have a dynamic IP?
We can only monitor your line if you have a static IP address as we are not able to track changes to your IP address at the moment. We will look at adding this functionality in a future version.

Sky Fibre seems to have sticky IP's a bit like Virgin Media though. I've had the same IP since installation despite a couple of power cuts etc.

I'd consider not going with Sky fibre if anyone is thinking of signing up. I've been with them since May firstly on the fibre unlimited service 40/2(40/10 now) where I had the half speed issue, then after 1 month I went with the Fibre Pro service, which I must add is £30/month and I've had NOTHING but PROBLEMS ever since. Sky's customer service is a complete joke they are incompetent at best and really DO NOT care about their customers. I'm currently syncing at 39/13 when my line can handle 68/20, apparently there is a fault on my line but BTO can't find any, it's just one lie after another. So be warned if you are thinking of going with these charlatans!

And on the other hand I'd quite happily recommend them after my experience. Install happened just before Christmas on the date I specified, upgrade to Pro went through as promised and the couple of times I've spoken to them it has been a UK call centre and they sorted the problem out straight away.

Now I'm on Pro I sync at 79999/20000 and I seem to get the full speed all the time, there's no jitter and Youtube actually works unlike on Virgin Media!

In contrast I've been with sky for 4-5 months now on the 80/20 package and have had 0 download slow downs and no issues with ping.

Can you get a static ip on sky fibre?

Naw. They try and pass it off as business requirment and apparently the T&C forbid running servers in addition to this, which is silly. Shame none of the bigger players don't wanna just sell

And already mine is going wrong. Some **** up with their systems means that I'll have to get the phone line switched over first and then re-order fibre.

Probably be a month before I finally end up with Fibre.

Disappointing. :(

Had exactly the same issue, absolutely fuming. Original installation was due for 19th December....Fibre is now being installed on Friday this week.

Been stuck with pathetic 4mb Sky ADSL in the interim because whilst they forgot to activate fibre for the original install, they didn't forget to disable my service from o2.

Truly ****ed. They offered half price for 3 months, but clearly an endemic issue with Sky.

well signed up. got given a date in april for portsmouth so I called and cancelled the whole sky world and sticking with virgin. i gave them 1 chance and that was lost when they promised to call me back with a better date at 3pm and never did then asked me if i was sure i'd been offered a call. I told them i'm the kind of guy you don't make mistakes with and I wouldn't sign up if it was free. Made them pay for the 0844 too.

when you ask for internet you get it installed in the portsmouth area within 48 hours with virgin. they do all the drilling and installs themselves and don't have to deal with openreach whom i work with so I know they are a shower.

Virgin just works. Connecting the sky box at one end of the house to the internet involved a stupid additional connecter and an interview about what extras I would need. Virgin just works - 1 cable with tv and fibre.

I regret not having access to sky go. That is the only reason I tried to switch. To be fair £110 for virgin compared to £120 for sky each month for the top everything package nets me faster internet with virgin and £10 savings. Maybe I'll just knock virgin down to freeview and get skygo on my pc monthly, i just want sports on my pc.

Lemme tell you though if talktalk pull their finger out the combo of freeview/premium they have with youview is unbeatable.

I think the difference with talktalk now with their new offerings is they don't want to sign people up whilst they can't get the openreach engineers quickly unlike sky. Talktalk have me on a waiting list and will let me know when there is availability to place an order rather than all this sky stress of placing, realizing there's a 3 month wait in portsmouth then cancelling which takes £6 and 90 minutes of calls.

Can't wait for rolling monthly contracts with all the channels on the other major networks. Must get me a freeview aerial this summer in readiness although they use this in a combo with satelitte to get the sky channels and discovery/comedy central etc.
