SKY HD

Someone on another forum have said that SKY have stopped taking orders due to 'overwhelming demand' I guess the site may have been disabled?

edit: site is back up, but you are not now able to order until April. Probably confirms the fact that they have been inundated with orders.

Hey guys, long time lurker.. thought it was time i signed up :)

Just a quick question.. I had Sky+ installed just before christmas. I understood that i signed up to a 12 month contract by doing this.. Now that sky hd is almost upon us, will i be able to order a sky hd box and pay the normal price (£299 + £10pm sub) and get rid of my sky+ box without having to 'buy out' the remaining months on my sky+ contract?

just incase this changes things.. I have 2 sky+ boxes with the top sky package. This means i pay 1x£10 sub for sky+.. Initially i will only want one sky hd box (so will keep the other sky+ box installed) Hope someone can shed some light without me having to speak direct to sky.

Hope that makes some sense :O

Cheers

Your contract is with Sky, and you will still be using the same package ( or an upgraded variety of the same) so you shouldnt have any trouble at all

Shimmyhill suggested earlier that the Sky HD box had a 300Gb drive in it but only 160Gb was usable by us --- so what is it using the other 140Gb for? I understand the need for buffers etc but nearly 50% of the drive???

they will be running it soon as there was a massive job advert in my local paper asking for trainee sky box fitters as they need more Sky HDTV.

i'll certainly be interested to see what you think of it :D

I'll let you know if and when it actually gets installed. At least I can give it a proper 37" roadtest :)

The 140gb of reserved space is suposed to be used for future updates by sky
the main one being video on demand

Im sure that can probably be modified :D also the fact that it has usb and sata connectors may allow external storage to be connected?

just pre ordered, got the email a few days ago was waiting until I got paid, and now we wait, I hope they dont want the £299 soon, otherwise its a bit of con considering they are not installing until may

The email you get back from world pay says the £30 will be refunded and the £299 is payable when they install the SkyHD.
I ordered mine at 10am on the first morning so if the they do as they say and its first come first served i "should" be one of the first as the email didnt come out untill 9am and the web site regestration went up at 8am ...we will see :)

so basically at the moment, its £299 + £10 pm, is that for new and upgrades? Im thinking £10 is a lot for about 8 or so channels, then again why the hell did i buy a lcd tv that was hd ready :D
