*** Sky Q Thread ***

I don't know the channel prices off the top of my head, I work in tech, not sales. £12 Sky Q Multiscreen, Full package is £92 (I think!) without any discounts. Set up costs and one, maybe two Sky Q mini boxes will need to be paid for too.

I have half price TV fir eighteen months if you like? No discounts on fibre at the moment.
If they stay with their current provider then they'll likely get a Fibre offer in their 'my offers' section of Sky.

This is what I have:

However they are not as competitive as PlusNet's current offers so I've just switched from Zen.

@MissChief

My friend at work has SKY HD and wants to look at getting Q

I have sent a link through MySky but I am sure thats only for new subscribers??

If so do you have any offers for existing subscribers upgrading to Q at the moment?

Question to users out there - any thoughts?

I have Q (Silver) and 3 mini boxes. We have a decent (Sky) Fibre connection (circa. 25Mbs) and good satellite signal, as well as a booster (Sky) in the middle of the house, to be on the safe side, but any and all of the mini boxes can sometimes get afflicted by connection problems. Often, this is one day, and not another for no apparent reason. The engineer's app showed fine connectivity in the wireless mesh, when last box was supplied.

When connectivity message appears on screen that a mini box is connected to (only ever have 2 in use max, I know I cannot currently have 3 minis simultaneously), if I look at the Network Settings I can see that the Wifi connection is present, and the next line down (can't remember what that is), but the 'On Demand' row keeps alternating between a tick and a cross....before settling back on a tick, when the screen image/sound works again.
So far, I have found that connecting the main Q box via Ethernet to the Sky router has minimised this issue - previously, the whole setup was over wireless - but not completely alleviated it. It is rather annoying!!! We have no wifi issues around the house, in fact - since Sky Q was installed - it is better and further reaching than before (guess that is the 'mesh'?)......all boxes are on latest firmware.....just want it to 99.9% reliably work, rather than circa. 80-90%.

Appreciate any tips :)

I have SONOS-NET and my Ubiquiti AP and I have no issues with the mini talking to the Q box.

We have Ethernet points in every room, so will use that by matter of course anyway, plus the distance of one of the boxes is large (end of garden). Would be surprised if the mesh reached there with the required bandwith, we have a top end wifi router with a ridiculous range and that barely reaches there with any meaningful bandwidth (we run 1 main WiFi router and 3 as APs repeating the SSID throughout the house)

Do you need a sky dish installed to have sky Q ? when we bought our bungalow we had virgin hard wired into the loft and ran down the wall cavity's so we don't have wires all over the place .
Im just wondering what options i would have if i moved from virgin.

I would hope you have to have a dish installed considering it is still beamed via satellite! The Engineers should be able to install the cabling as and where you want it.

Sky are coming to change the dish and LNB to receive the Sky Q service for me on Sunday. Can't wait to have the footy and F1 in 4k.

Is the lack of 4K on the basic Sky Q box a hardware or software limitation? I'm not planning to buy a 4K telly for another year at least, so spending £200 now on the other box would be a bit of a waste. It would be nice if Sky eventually added 4K to the basic box (even if there was a subscription premium).
