Is the lack of 4K on the basic Sky Q box a hardware or software limitation? I'm not planning to buy a 4K telly for another year at least, so spending £200 now on the other box would be a bit of a waste. It would be nice if Sky eventually added 4K to the basic box (even if there was a subscription premium).
( my relations, somewhat naively payed the £200 when they do not have a 4K telly either. )
Just had Q 2tb and a mini box installed this morning, the chap who did it was a total gent and cleared a load of old redundant cabling off my house too.
Largely impressed with it however I've noticed that the 4k upscaler isn't a patch on the LG e6 one, which isn't surprising.
Given the lack of 4k content currently I've opted to keep it on 1080 for now and switch when needed but an 'auto' resolution option would be nice.

(being pedantic) some of the artifacts maybe down to de-interlaceI've always wondered considering the cost of Sky why the scaling chips are poor. I sometimes see transparent graphic edges on the sport graphics (top and bottom) bounce on fast panning. Yet it doesn't happen with my other devices.
Sky are coming out with a broadband streaming 4k box in 2018, so with that, you will be able to get the same 4k movies the Q box does via broadband - links posted earlier & google it.
Your 4K telly will doubtless have 4k netflix/amazon too.
I would think they will deliver a slightly lower bandwidth 4K sport too, via broadband.
... so not forking out the £200 may not be a problem, the new box will not justify a £200 install to just connect it to an internet connection.

Thank you MisChief we got the Sky Q installed on Friday. Got it all connected via Ethernet and seems fine. The biggest thing that is of use to us is continuining where you left off on recordings and recordings being viewable across all boxes
Another thing to remember is if you are watching a live broadcast (i.e.not a recording from your box) and you wish to continue watching in a different room, if you press record then pause, you can shut down that TV and box go to another TV and mini and continue where you left off as if it was a recording.

Got Q installed this morning, quick question.
- If you have something stored on both Q boxes, can you delete from one and not the other or will it always remove from both when you delete?
- For those with kids, how do you get around this 4 device thing, I'm disappointed you can't have more than 2 devices with the Q app on, I have 4 iPads in the house! Even worse I thought Q App and Go would be separate entities but they tie in with each other, I take it you can't increase from 4?
Enjoying the upgrade anyway, just need my 4K TV now!
Thanks!
