*** Sky Q Thread ***

This is why sky have such a poor reputation...

I have sky q, no need for multiroom.
I went to download some of my recordings via the Q app to watch on tablet on holiday.
Message pops up...sorry you have to have a multi room subscription.
Christ on a bike. What has multiroom got to do with watching your recordings offline?...apart from yet another underhand way of screwing more money out of customers.

But that is part of the multiroom package and has been since day 1, I don't have an aerial or any type of connection in the bedroom so multiroom is great in my situation. Could you not have used sky go which will work? TBF my package price including 80mb fiber is cheaper than having fiber and any other broadcasters supplied package at the same level.

TBH a lot of the stuff broadcast would look a hell of a lot better if it wasn’t so heavily compressed, that’s where skys problem is the bitrates are crap

HLG afaik even on sky won't be broadcast it will be available as on demand / live stream only. The content on SKY however bad the broadcast bitrate, is streets ahead of the others available in my area (non Virgin area).

Just thought I’d post this here......

Up until today I’ve been happily watching the World Cup on my iPad Pro, using the Sky Q app.

Tonight it tells me that I can no longer watch BBC1 on My app; I can’t ly view it on my tv, (and also a whole load of other channels.) Is this a glitch or have Sky just decided to change things? Not happy.

Right folks... got Sky Q all installed.
1 box + 2 minis.

What can I say... Im not overwhelmed or underwhelmed but I do like the features and the menu system is pretty cool (albeit a little getting used to).

Ive got some questions, I would be grateful for your input...

1. Is it me or does the channel changing take a little longer to buffer (even on the main box).
2. Is it me (there may be a few of these as you can tell :))… does the bit rate look a little worse than its HD+ counterpart on the main box and the minis?
3. The engineer set everything up but after he left I plugged in all my homeplugs into the ethernet and set the boxes up and disabled the 2.4G and 5G WiFi options in the "001" settings menu... does this mean all boxes should NOT be transmitting any kind of WiFi?
4. The "hot spot" feature which comes for Sky broadband customers... this doesn't apply to me as I have Virgin Cable, but how can I make sure that such "facility is disabled" (basically I want these boxes not transmit anything).
5. What is the main difference between Sky Go and Sky Q app? Apart from being able to access the recordings on the Sky Q app?
6. Is it possible to access your recordings outside your home network or do you need to somehow "download" them to your tablet/viewing device?
7. As a test, I took out the ethernet cables out of one of the mini viewers to see if it would still continue streaming. It did not which hopefully corroborates with my question number 3.
8. Is there any "short cut" method to access certain items on the menu without having to scroll to them? E.g. settings is right at the bottom and just a bit of chore to just scroll scroll scroll down to the bottom...
9. I noticed in some videos there is a Powerline option in the 001 menu. However when I viewed that menu today, I could not see this option, I guess its been removed as of the recent software upgrades?
10. I read somewhere there could be a way to see if the Sky boxes are transmitting an SSID but its the 5G mesh and hidden, is there anyway to make sure this is truly OFF?
11. On the old sky remote, you can press the coloured keys to go to planner, delete etc. Is there anyway to delete items from the planner quickly without having to go into it and specifically selecting delete?

Blimey a few questions there, apologies, but thanks in advance!

Yes, but there's more 'going on' as the main box does everything.
Can't say I've noticed.
Correct. If you're not with sky broadband and connected via cable then they won't output anything.
They're functionally the same outside of the house, inside the Q app will allow you to download to the device.
No, you need to download them to the device beforehand.
Correct.
You wouldn't need to access settings very often. Sky button takes you straight to recordings.
Power line has been removed.
Not sure, if you've turned off broadcast it shouldn't be outputting anything.
No delete shortcut but you can delete whole stacks in the disk space Menu rather than individually.

But that is part of the multiroom package and has been since day 1,

my point is the way sky mess about putting unconnected packages together in the name of profit.

watching a recording offline is in no way connected to having a multiroom subscription. so why group them together? you pay for sky Q so surely you should get the app facility as standard? it's heavily advertised, like ooh you can watch your recordings offline via the sky Q app lol... well I have sky Q and i can't watch my recordings so it's misleading.

it's like when I got the sports package....went to turn it on, it's not in HD...but cinema gets HD as standard. so its another £6 on to my package.

it's all just an underhand way of screwing their customers...compare it to the netflix model I know which I prefer.
I'll be leaving sky when this current deal runs out just had enough of their snide ways now.

I've noticed the last few months that my Sky Q box seems to crash every F1 weekend, either when its recording F1 UHD or i'm watching F1 UHD. It happened just now, a few times i got a blue screen saying UHD content cannot be played just now, but HD/SD is still available. Pushed back and continued watching UHD recording. This happened 2 or 3 times in 15 mins then it just died and i had to unplug it and plug it in again. Doesn't happy any other time (F1 is the only UHD content i watch, and also the only reason I have Sky)
Is it worth my while phoning sky do you think, for some reason they seem to think having to switch your box off at the wall is a normal thing to have to do.

Mine has locked up a couple of times in the past fortnight, but not during UHD content (I've been recording both the F1 and England T20 cricket in UHD).

I find it amusing that sky keep sending me "come back" offers but as I sent the sky q box back months ago I can't make use of them even if I wanted to.

Wonder if they'll change their marketing now that customers don't keep the box.

They'll certainly arrange an Engineer to attend to fit new boxes if you do come back!

Why would the marketing need to be any different? If you decide to 'come back' they will just send an engineer with the boxes.

Says at the bottom I'd need to pay for box / installation so not exactly as good a deal as before when you just plugged your old one in.
Exactly - this is going to stop a lot of potential ex customers joining up again IMHO. Certainly no chance of a weak moment, a phone call and being able to watch something that night. Being a weak mortal I like this new approach as once it goes back it will be gone for good.
