*** Sky Q Thread ***

Exactly - this is going to stop a lot of potential ex customers joining up again IMHO. Certainly no chance of a weak moment, a phone call and being able to watch something that night. Being a weak mortal I like this new approach as once it goes back it will be gone for good.
I find it unlikely you'd pay for a box to be installed.

Anyone had any issues with the main Sky Q box displaying no image on screen after switching inputs on AV Receiver or TV (e.g. to watch Sky, then DVD or playstation, then back to Sky)?

Had it happen a couple of times now and only way to resolve is to hold the power button on Sky Q box until it goes red and then wait for it to boot back up (but obviously not ideal as can't do when it's recording anything).

I'm using a Denon X1300W, Panasonic EX700B TV (although did the same with another TV as recently upgraded).

Don't think it's just me, as something similar here:

So are you saying the first time you take out a Sky Q contract you'll get hit for installation/setup fees but if you've returned it all and sign up again at a later date there will be no repeat of these fees. Nice if true but it does surprises me somewhat and I assume it'll only be true if your dish still has a wideband LNB in it?

Depends which box you go for. You'd probably get a 1TB box free but there might be a charge for a 2TB box.

folks ive noticed some weird artifacting whilst watching world cup games....
hard to describe but the weird thing is... the artifacting isn't being recorded, i.e if I play it back, the scenes are smooth and clear....

I had turned the unit off at the plug and on again and it seems to have corrected it but only temporarily....

its bizzare as its only happening on the world cup games.... has anyone else had this or do I have a developing problem?

Ok bizzare thing... the phenomenon happens on the Sky Q box and also when I am streaming the same channel from the Sky Q app on my ipad…

But not on any of my 2 q mini viewers... doesn't make sense!

Very quick question...do you still need to get multi-room to be able to get the UHD content?

Reason for asking is due to move soon and as I will be in a house on my own have no need for multi-room, so will only want to view on my TV in living room

Seemingly now resolved, having turned HDMI Control off on the SkyQ box (was already off everywhere else)

From what I've read on sky q forums it seems you need to have multiroom to get the UHD channels but you don't need multiroom to get multiroom content, just the box which you can buy off ebay or gumtree. So it looks like the UHD content is a toggle of some sort on Sky's side but they can't toggle the miniboxes on or off whether you have a subscription to multiroom or not.

Surprised you can buy them on eBay, thought you got fined for not returning

As far as I know you do get fined £50 for not returning it, at least that's what Sky told me when I cancelled yesterday. They said I have 90 days to return the box or pay £150 and return the mini box or pay £50. Personally, I will keep the mini box and pay £50 one off fine than pay multiroom £12/month for life.

Just called Sky and it is still the same, yo need multi-room to get the UHD content, along with the 2 TB box.

As much as I wanted to see the UHD content, do not want it that much, so will just stick with a standard home move and move my current full package over and stick with that.

They're annoying as hell, every which way they can to extract money

How good is the Sky soundbar? I visited the Sky stand at Goodwood over the weekend (I already have SkyQ) and the guy I spoke to was adamant that it would sound better than my Marantz AV amp, Tag power amps & Linn speakers. Seemed like he was determined to get a sale regardless of it being of any benefit.

He’s off his rocker if he thinks that.

Quick question before I call Sky, we have our main 2tb in a room next door in which the inlaws have their mini Q box, around 3 or 4 times a day their screen goes blue and flicks back again, I've moved a booster box in between the two but it still doing the same thing

Is this something people have seen as I fail to see it wifi related...

I have a Yamaha 763 amp and Jamo surrounds and sub. A relatively cheap setup and having heard the soundbox I thought it did sound really good for the price as a sky customer. However I wouldn't change my setup for a soundbox. It's way better than any TV speakers and certainly better than most soundbar types at the same price, but not a patch on a proper 5.1 amp and speakers. If you don't have anything it's worth it, if you have a £49 Polaroid soundbar from Asda then it's worth it again. If you have a dedicated 5.1 setup then no, not worth changing.
