*** Sky Q Thread ***

Not heard of crackling before but shedloads of people, myself included, are getting dropouts to some degree.

Sky really need to update people to at least say they're aware and working on fixes. So far we've heard nothing.

We've seen nothing since April 11th and that was only some router fixes and to enable non Sky broadband users to join. I wish they weren't so very secretive about updates.

Because I am a noob I don't know the answer to this. Do the Sky Q Mini boxes allow you to watch all your TV without needing an aerial? I.e. could I stick a TV in my bedroom where there is no aerial socket, have one of these boxes installed and then watch my tat?

Yep - whatever your package includes, i.e. is viewable on the main box, you will be able to view on the mini box. Crucially, with Sky Q, you can also access recordings (all are physically stored on the main box, note) and on-demand content too.

Getting really bad audio crackling and dropouts after a couple of days that only a reboot sorts, regretting jumping in so early.

Any fix? My audio is running through hdmi into a Yamaha amp.

Same through a Denon amp. Getting really annoying.

I noticed that, for me at least, the Sky Q upgrade has gone from being £35 a month extra to £27.50 a month extra... Is this a deal for a limited time, or is that the price now it's 'settled down' slightly? :)

Is there a way to get the one-off cost of £149 waived? Seems a bit rubbish having been a customer for two years already that I have to pay a fee. But, it is Sky i'm talking about here I guess! What is the cost even for?!

Woke up to "No satellite signal being received" this morning, another damn reboot which resolved it. 6 or so reboots in 4 days to correct various bugs.

WTF is this pile of garbage Sky?

A couple of days testing would have thrown up these issues in development what testing has this system had?

I have rebooted about 5 times this week as well. This morning being the latest when catch up wasn't displaying and everything else was.

Have you updated the software, I haven't had to reboot my skyQ for over a week

I still don't have the updated software and mine has generalły been pretty good. I don't actually use it that often though, maybe 2-3 times during the week, then nearly all day at the weekend.

Installation of at least a new LNB and potentially new dish. Installation and setup of equipment which can be a protracted process depending on wifi coverage and whether boosters are required. Basic tutorial/training on the system. Engineer's time.

I really don't get why people are surprised that there's an installation cost. You may have been a customer for years but what difference does that make? The installation costs Sky money, are they just supposed to forget about that? I had a man out to sort a drain the other week, he was here for an hour and that cost £140 which is about the going rate for a tradesman. £149 for a potentially far more protracted Sky installation seems very reasonable by comparison.

See this makes sense now, I didn't realise they would need to do new bits. Figured it was just an expensive hand delivery and setup of a new box.
I'm not surprised when it's justified, and you have justified it so i'm happy to pay it.

Any ideas if the cost per month is going to continue down, or the £27.50 is a short-term offer? :)

Got my skyQ hub this morning..

so far seems to work pretty well. has dual band receivers but only 2 Ethernet ports..

@MissChief

any idea when the power line networking is being introduced? one of my mini boxes is going in an area thats no the best wifi signal and would prefer the powerline function.

I can go months without a reboot with the +HD boxes. Most reboots are on its own whenever adsense/software updates are sent out. I hardly have to intervene. :s

Not sure really. It's in the installer setup menu already so I'm not sure why it's not 'on'.

What's the latest software version?

Currently there is only one so when the engineer updated it at install it will be on the latest version.

i see a few people have found out how to turn it on... might give it a try when its all installed as my conservatory has not network connection and aint the best signal wise for wifi..

The rest i will wire in once he has gone.
