*** Sky Q Thread ***

I have a shared dish * block of flats * I don't fancy paying the install fee my self then everyone else get the free benefit and pos a free install

Is there away sky can talk to the property manager ect or am I going to have to pay out

Generally it will be the property manager/company that talk with Sky. Give them a call and ask to speak to the MDU install department and they may have an idea if the dish has been updated yet. I've yet to hear of any single customer paying for the communal dish to be updated.

This will show you how 'upgraded' your system is.

Apparently mines only allows for the recording of one show at a time however this is not the case as I can currently record two shows at a time on Sky+ so to be honest I'm not sure how reliable it is.

I'm going to send off an email to my factors and see if there has been any request made to upgrade the system as I may wish to change to Sky Q in the future.

What's the approach recommended on receipt of the Sky Q Hub, ahead of installation? My Hub has arrived, and the install date is a week on Friday.....currently not using the SR102 that was supplied, using a Netgear D7000 instead - should I get the Hub setup in advance?

I set mine up on Saturday.. actually quite surprised how well its working.

unless you need the additional features of the D7000 ( which i also have and have not yet missed any features ) i would say get it set-up and settle in before the install.

No harm done in getting it up and running beforehand.

Ideally, yes. On occasion I have heard routers taking up to an hour to authenticate.

Thanks, all, will have a go on Friday, when WFH (after finished working, natch!)

Some stuff on UHD from the Sky forum:

Sky have been testing on 10744, H , 23.0, 2/3, 8PSK for several weeks at an average 30.6Mbps now. It's encrypted so you won't see anything.

According to a different online forum select Sky Q testers now have an update that has enabled UHD and were able to watch the cricket the rest of us with sport had in HD over the weekend in simucast 4k. Whether that's true or not I can't say but it sounds promising.

Had Sky Q installed this morning and when the engineer was going through it all he said I should use the remote to get used to it and he would tell me what to do. Anyway, as I was going through the menus, in the Boxset sub menu there was a Ultra HD option with 2 box sets in there. The engineer was amazed and said he'd never seen it before, and promptly took a picture on his iPad. Unfortunately I don't have a 4K to yet so didn't even click on them, but I also took a picture. So, I went back to work and came home tonight and the Ultra HD menu has gone. Makes me think something is eminent. (The box sets were The Blacklist and Richard Hammonds Jungle quest by the way, not sure how to upload a picture of it)
Engineer checked my software settings but said they were what he'd expected to see so had no idea where it came from.

I've seen the picture and it was there.

The BBC are hopeless and will take forever to get round to 4K. The Olympics is the perfect showcase and opportunity to start some 4K broadcasts to the public but they can't be bothered. They're more interested in providing HD versions of CBeebies for heaven's sake - like the average toddler can tell the difference.

Mine can, although they dont watch it as much anymore now they have found Robot Wars.

Yep, yep, and an useful post on the Sky forums from one of the Community Managers states:

'There will not be any additional subscription charge for viewing any UHD programmes when they are available, they will be included in Sky Q Silver subscription bundle'

I plan on keeping that particular screenshot #just in case
