*** Sky Q Thread ***

Sky's marketing department are hopeless - they need to determine a strategy and naming system and stick to it rather than juggling everything around all the time and confusing the hell out of everyone.

Yep. As soon as they've shifted the 500,000 1tb boxes they've over-ordered, expect another shift in marketing.

Do both the new sky q contracts include sky go extra for free? Or can you still stream live tv etc to any supported device with the sky q app?

Nope - all the packages changed yesterday. No such thing as sky q silver anymore.

Yeah my mistake, hence my comment above.

Totally ridiculous and Sky marketing have no idea what they're doing. System has only been on the market for about eight months and already they've totally renamed it all.

So now they don't sell Silver but I still have it

I'm going to officially stop offering any advice in this thread as my aging brain is obviously incapable of keeping up with the pace of Sky's lunacy :p

So now that Sky Q is the default option with no added cost what about people who currently have sky+ HD and want the 1tb Q box?

It seems when you click upgrade on their site the only option available is to pay an extra £12 multi room which i don't need or want.

Would happily pay £15 for the new box though and new subscribers can get this without being forced to take multi-room so why force existing customers to upgrade with it?!

Currently have 4 months free box set bundle without a contract ,looks like people will be forced to cancel and resub to avoid the multiscreen bundle.

Maybe a threat of cancellation will get me one sent out ;)

yup..all I want is my current hd+ package with a sky Q box

dont need UHD, dont need multiscreen..all I want is that extra tuner to record 3 things at a time

I am in the same boat, the site forces a multiscreen addition which i have no interest in at all. Until this is removed i wont upgrade sadly :(

Just to let everybody know - the installer returned today with the silver box I should have had first off. It is now installed - had to update software before it recognised my Sammy 4K TV, but now working fine. Yay at last!!!!

Mark
Ps thanks to all who commented and made suggestions.

Hi guys -

Wondering if someone could offer some advice. Currently paying £46 PM for Virgin Media M+ TV (500GB Tivo) Talk Weekends and 150mb broadband. Virgin are looking to increase my bill by £3.50 a month plus a further £7 when my loyalty discount ends. Is there an equivalent package to this for Sky Q? I have recently bought a 4K TV as well if that's of any use. Thanks :)

I was in the same boat, checked how much it was to upgrade from full package plus extra box to sky q plus extra box from my existing package and it went up to £92 plus £100 installation.

Phoned to cancel and said I was cancelling as a new customer gets it for £67.58 (everything, boxsets cinema sports HD and including multi room and 2tb sky q box etc) with £60 installation on a 12 month contract.

The solution was to discount my package and then they arranged to ring me back the next day give me sky q on my current new discounted package and charge me £90 for installation with £30 credited straight back to my account. Just waiting for the installation on the 4th Nov now.

65 inch 4k TV is on the Xmas shopping list now :D

Edit: my point being is just phone them direct and they'll sort out a deal.

Well I will be calling them in the next day or so to try that. Let's see if it's that easy!

It should be mate, the Scottish lady I spoke to said that there are a lot of people phoning up to complain about the new customer > existing customer offers.

I don't mind paying an extra few quid over new customers just out of pure ease of upgrading without cancelling but Sky should really have a rethink when it comes to existing customers.

I just called Sky again to see if they would offer me anything different. I said I want to keep my current package which is Variety with F1 HD and that I would want UHD. He said I would need to 2TB Sky Q box and initially said it was £199 one off charge and no monthly increase, then quickly stopped and said he needed to check with his supervisor, he put me on hold for a few minuted and when he returned he said to get UHD I'd need multiroom and it would be £60 one off then and extra £12 a month.

Its a bit rubbish, I only have a small flat and 1 TV is plenty, why would I want to watch TV in bed when I have a nice comfy sofa, big screen TV and awesome sound quality.

I wouldn't mind the one off fee but already paying £44 a month which is way too much for how much TV I watch. I'm also paying for BT Sport on top just to watch MotoGP, I need to find an alternative and ditch that.

Same situation with me,I said I wanted to keep my current deal but want the new 1tb Q box and the best offer I got was £45 one off fee with a mini,I thought why would they give me a mini without a multi screen subscription and feel they probably tried to trick me into getting a multi sub,I'm only paying £22 for box sets & movies so paying 2 months of tv subscription along with the added monthly cost made in the end put in my cancellation notice.

To be honest I won't miss sky much and it's the ease of recording that's the main plus for me ,here's hoping LG's 2016 TVs get that free view play update soon ,will probably convince me never to come back to sky again.
