*** Sky Q Thread ***

Some good information on HUKD regarding sky deals.... Clicky

Main jist is;

you have to cancel via phone on 03442 411 653 or online; before following these steps

how to get sky cheap after ringing up, cancelling and ignoring ALL offers given to you on the phone

1) click this link

2) copy and paste the following, delete the multiroom part if you don't currently have it..or leave it and see if they'll give you a multiroom install for half price

Hi, I've had a letter offering me 60% off, £50 account credit and half price multiroom if I rejoin sky, I'd like to accept this offer on a monthly rolling contract please

3) They usually say great I'll see about adding this for you, if they say the deal isn't available but we can give you 35% etc, just say no it's ok I'll keep my cancellation

4) End chat politely, taking note of the person you have talked to

5) click the link above again, copy and paste exactly the same again unless it's the same person, if it's the same person just end chat to avoid looking silly

6) repeat until you get the 60% off, £50 credit and half price multiroom

7) do not give up, do not accept less than 60% off, you have 31 days from cancellation notice to get them to add it before your sky will be deactivated so don't panic or accept anything less

Generally most people are getting 60% off their bills, rolling contracts and anything from 50-100£ bill credit.

It looks like when you take them with the 60% off deal, if you cancel multiroom and then ask to transfer to the Sky Q team you can then pay £12 a month more for Q.

May be worth you guys trying?

Mine is up on Monday so ill be doing it again :)

HTH

That was all true but if you read the comments at the end you'll see Sky have changed tactics over the last couple of weeks and are now adamant that credit isn't available.

Still worth a shot and may change again but don't be surprised if you only get a discount.

Had a strange bug last night with the mini box. I was watching the Freeview Man city v Barcelona on sky 414 downstairs, I went to bed early to watch the second half on the mini box and that couldn't receive the channel? Anyone else having that issue?

There's an additional cost for BT Sport on the mini boxes, I presume you're paying this?

Not paying for BT at all, it was just free to view for the match last night. If there is an additional cost then that kind of explains it as it would take a bit of extra management on their side to unlock the mini box just for one game.

I have come across it before with other non BT channels i.e Studio66 channel 903 ;)

Apart from some 4K flickering we've been pretty much error free until Wednesday morning when the “Black Screen of Death” occurred when switching on to watch breakfast news.

It has now happened on numerous occasions and keeps coming back (see note).

This is with a Silver box with latest firmware using UHD output and KD-55XD9305 has flicker fix.

No amount of resetting the box and tv/ports resolves this issue.

Switching off Dolby/Optical makes no difference, nor does using Eco mode.

All combinations of ports have been tried and it persists. Resetting the silver box does not always recover the picture.

With us the black screen is stuck in UHD. The TV is ok as it runs Amazon/Blu-ray 4K boxes without error.

After two days of hell reported to Sky last night and they’re sending out an engineer on November 3rd!

---------------------

Note: As a last resort, I switched the Silver box to 1080P late last night and so far, no reset.

Still get the black screen with 1080P but at least we're now not paying for the service. I wonder what has happened in the background to make this happen as more people are now reporting the same!

Could anyone tell me if the Sky Q box and remote would work if the box was behind a closed door on a TV unit. Looking at new TV units to accommodate new TV and have sky q coming in on 4th November. Thanks

Black screen of death continued:

A short-term fix before the engineer comes to fix (replace) box or Sky do something magical...

It is only the Sliver box that is causing the black screen. The Mini and iPad work.

Brought down the Mini box from upstairs plugged it into the main TV using the Silver box hdmi lead and we now have a temporary working system in our living room.

[So the TV port and hdmi lead are eliminated from the problem and we are sure that the Silver box is at fault.]

Don't worry Cos, only 13% of people are having problems which is very good according to Sky.

When it works it's really good, it's just a shame it's a buggy piece of **** half the time.

Does anybody else dislike the remote(s)?

Its too small, you need double jointed thumbs to press the 9 button without dropping the remote. when the room is dark i find it hard to feel where I am on the remote compared to the old trusty - BIG - remote.

Another issue I am having is that it records random programs. Usually BBC breakfast or Good morning Britain is recording when I get up and they arnt series linked.

Sky really are taking liberties pushing Q as hard as they are when it's still riddled with so many issues.

I predict a starring role on a future episode of Watchdog and possibly legal action in their future if they don't sort it out soon.
