*** Sky Q Thread ***

Thanks,

susbequently saw a Q radio series link not working thread which seems to support it not working;
as it says it is a pain if you go on holiday; but, for a daily repeat (The Archers) maybe able to use the search, to first find all the episodes, and then, schedule the daily records more easily.

About Audio bitrate on sd vs hd, on Sky Atlantic HD both sd and hd have 384Kb/s ac3/5.1 and 192Kb/s mp3 stereo so no difference on live broadcast

After having Q for a few weeks, here are my thoughts:

  • The whole wireless multiroom stuff is fantasic - very few issues so far
  • The new touch remote is terrible, it has a mind of it's own and does crazy things at the slightest touch
  • The lack of Favorites is very annoying

Overall, I'm happy that the multi-room aspect is pretty straightforward, but the menu structure and interface for Q is nothing special at all.

Seems Sky are looking at adding a music streaming service to the Q box with the possibility of having each box as a zone / speaker (tv).

They sent a questionnaire out asking what features you'd like to see in a music streaming service and how much you'd pay, filled it all out and then the final page timed out

Could be good if they implement some of the features they talked about like creating playlists from programs watched and full integration in to the Sky Q interface. Probably wouldn't pay much for it though as already have Spotify and Chromecasts.

Fairly certain I'm going to leave Sky when my contract is up - I barely use it. I think I've watched one thing which wasn't on terrestrial TV and that was the footy yesterday. But I was in the pub for the first half and could have easily stayed there for the second. Most events I tend to watch in the pub anyway.

Seems like they're desperately trying to be the centre for home entertainment, which isn't going to work unless they do some kind of deal with Spotify/Netflix/Prime/Sonos etc.

The Airplay feature on the boxes is useful, but only to stream music I already subscribe to through Prime and Spotify. It also doesn't do video, which is annoying.

Evening folks.

I've just been going through the upgrade process to Sky Q. It is being installed this weekend. On completing my order I was sent an email informing me of my new bill. Previously I have been paying an extra £12 per month for HD and £12 per month for multiscreen on the 2 boxes on top of my Variety + sports subscription, but I've noticed that in my email the only additional costs are £12 for multiscreen (same as previously).
Having a quick look around it appears that you no longer pay for HD if moving to Sky Q.... Is this true?

+1 unless you pay £6 HD sport or have box sets the sport will be SD.
This is a reference I had been using.
However if they told you it would give you same HD sport viewing as before, perhaps you can complain.

Got mine being installed Sunday, 2TB box and mini box, movies and sports, HD, £42pm for 18 months but only 12 month contract , £100 up front

My SkyQ silver box just switched off while watching a recorded programme. No response from the box using the remote. Pulled the plug to the mains and left it 10min powered up holding in the standby button for 10s to reset but nothing doing. Stuck on standby and no response from the box at all except pulsing Q and red light. Any ideas anyone?

I've had my box shutdown but it always comes back on with the remote. Ring Sky it's their box.
Andi.

Do any powline adapter's work with sky q? I want a solid connection to mini box in bedroom without booster looking untidy in hall/landing, plus the kids think a toy lol

Yes any will work but depending on your electrics then wifi may be better.

AFAIK they form their own private wifi network rather then using your home wifi so boosters do nothing.

True. If there are signal issues the engineer can use their own Q boosters.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that.

I tried powerline but got more problems than it was worth so used wifi in the end and I don't get any issues at all with network performance.

The sounds keep cutting out on our Sky Q box. Happens every few mins, and for no more than a second each time.

We don't have AV set up (yet), the box is connected directly to our Samsung KS8000 via HDMI with UDH enabled.

It affects live and on demand viewing. Audio is not set to Dolby (some sites advised checking this).

We can go a whole evening and not see it happen at all, but then there are times like this morning when it's almost constant.

Anyone else seen this? As I alluded to already, most references to this online suggest Dolby is the source of the problem and switching it off fixes it - as confirmed by most. But we don't have Dolby switched on in the first place.

Any suggestions welcome.

Edit. It's the 2TB Sky Box. We haven't set up the mini box yet.
