*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

My fixed term was due to end this September. I had fairly standard tv package with HD and box sets (28.64) and fibre max (36.22) for 64 a month. Asked on the online chat if they could do anything to match BT's package of TV with similar speed broadband for 43 a month and they did and threw in a free Sky Q upgrade. Not amazing but a good improvement on what I was paying before.

I just did the exact same thing and got the same deal including the free upgrade. Will be nice to be able to record more then two shows at once.

Did another deal this evening, I did take up their Multiscreen offer for £6 per month extra but I needed to upgrade the Signature package (was on the older Sky Q package) this ended up at £41.00 per month.

I had a change of mind and decided to cancel but noticed I had no emails, I went on chat today and they offered Sky Signature + Ultimate on demand, Multiscreen and UHD for £29 a month which I agreed with, I have the new UHD box installed on 17th September.

(I paid £25 for the box upgrade)

onto them again now have quoted your offer as that would keep me with them for another year or 18 months

Well that didnt go quite to plan, best they could do was £35 for the same as above, so said forget multiroom and it came to £25, fair enough I said but he couldnt process it as there was a technical error of somesort..... said best bet is to let it cancel tomorrow as planned and restart............

Just cancelled my Sky after being with them for a couple of years. Being honest, I just wasn't using the service any more as I find more compelling series on streaming platforms but Sky have annoyed me no end with their pricing. It's literally impossible to put a value to Sky now because of all the deals they do for individuals and they also have a habit of putting you onto some ridiculously expensive rolling contract when your deal ends, at least that's what they did with my Broadband. I was paying £25p/m for the fastest tier fibre and after my contract expired they shifted me to paying £50 for it and I wasn't aware because I certainly didn't get any post, message or email about my contract coming to an end.

Whilst I should have been aware, I was under the impression the whole package (including TV) contract extended when I added sports last year. Pretty sure I'll never go back to Sky again after this experience as I've genuinely not switched on my Sky box except for watching football and even then the quality is shocking compared to Amazon Prime. Obviously I'm sure that could be resolved by going SkyQ for yet more money, but I can't even have Sky Q because there's something that's not grounded where all the flats connect to.

I really hope one day there's a real competitor to Sky as both BT and Virgin aren't either good enough for available widely enough to be considered real alternatives. At least my PS5 can now fit where my Sky HD box is within my media unit :)

Just cancelled mine too, was going up to 100 quid a month in January for full package plus one multiroom box.

Not using it enough even at the reduced price to consider it value, kids just watch YouTube, Netflix and Disney plus, so I'll just keep these going alongside Freeview.

We cancelled in March and have since realised we don't really need it at all. They keep sending "offers" amounting to £5 off the full price. Complete waste of paper.

Still they've shot themselves in the foot. Had they sent a decent offer before we'd got used to not having it, we'd have re-subbed. Now we're completely used to not having it, the chances of any offer bringing us back is slim to none. The barrage of £5 off offers is frankly insulting!

I guess that's what happens when you take your customers for granted.

I took advantage of the Black Friday pricing a few weeks back - still in contract on my broadband, however TV was on a reduced rolling contract.
Now paying £17 for the Superfast Broadband & £23 for Signature, Ultimate TV Add-on, HD & UHD.
I'm happy with £40/month for my broadband, Ultimate Netflix and the basic Sky channels like Atlantic etc - I mean, Netflix would cost me £14/month on its own.

Just contacted them to cancel and I can't believe they asked me to return the box - i am having to pay to fund their DRM system.

Genuinely don't know why i made the mistake of signing up with them again. It wasn't even for me, i was paying for it in my sisters flat because i was using it a bit before she moved in and just kept up paying the contract

Are you on Sky Q?

You either watch sport which is exclusive to sky or you dont, surely? There is little other reason to subscribe, so if you dont, like me, i cant think how it is even worth £5 in total, let alone £5 off :p

Don't watch any sport :p

I hardly watch any TV, but I'm not the principle TV consumer :p And mum misses all the "documentary" channels (or "edutainment" as that crap is now known). She's only just got comfortable with Sky UI, no chance of i-Player or anything else.

Besides, Netflix et al aren't really big documentary providers. Mostly TV shows.

Disney+ has Discovery Channels, plus of other stuff.

If it's Q then you were only ever being loaned the equipment - that is made more than clear throughout the entire ordering process.
Advantage being there is no such thing as an "out of warranty box" if it decided to go wrong. The minor inconvenience being you'll need to send it back in the postage paid packaging they will send you.
If it's Pre-Q they ask you to return it, as it helps them tick boxes when it comes to recycling electronic equipment - all companies need to meet a requirement on recycling and that helps them. Or you can keep it, your choice.

Or just have a moan and a whinge - whatever.

Any idea what notice period I need to give Sky ? Moving end of Feb , I’m out of contract on SkyQ and Fibre .

Happy to port it over to my new house but I’m thinking maybe better to start again ?

Annoyingly since cancelling, I'm being left ghost voicemails from Sky. I have a Samsung phone with their spam call service enabled (powered by an external provider known as Hiya) and this has flagged a Sky number as spam, therefore my phone doesn't ring and they're put straight to answer phone.

Just noticed my future Sky bill (4April21) is going up from £80.50pm to £100.50pm. I seem to remember something about Sky TV (now signature) being allowed one price rise during minimum term which cant be more than 10% and if its more you can refuse and give 30 days notice to quit. Can someone confirm this is correct please. Also since signing up with Sky in Sept.2019 I have been forced to retire from my job and cannot afford the upcoming rises. Any comment which may assist me would be helpful as I need to cut back my packages.

Isn't your price rise in April due to your introductory offer expiring after 18 months? You're free to pay the higher price, negotiate a new 18 month deal or of course cancel with the 31 days notice sometime late Feb or March.
