*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

I'd hardly call £700+ per year to watch TV cheap, there's no broadband, phoneline or Netflix etc on that bill!
I always got broadband with PlusNet because I watch Rugby Union which is only available on BT Sport. It worked out cheaper to get BT Sport and Broadband through PlusNet compared to directly with Sky. The Sky Price includes Netflix Ultimate 4k or whatever it's called, it worked out cheaper through Sky compared to Netflix themselves.

Just spoke to Sky about cancelling once we have VM installed, their retentions guy was really good. Up front fee to cancel sports of £60 and they can bring me down to a monthly bill of £28.50 until my contract ends in January next year.

Now I just have to work out if the Ultimate Oomf or whatever it's called with VM includes Netflix at a discount or not. I also have to see if their TV and broadband is any good once it's installed in my area (any day I'm told). I know it lacks Sky Cinema but we barely watch it and I have other means to watch films.

Ultimate Oomph is as follows for £89 per month:

600Mbps broadband
Truly Unlimited 4G SIM - now 5G!
Home Phone Line - with pretty much any calls included.
Maxit TV + Sky Sports HD + Sky Cinema HD
+ Kids Pick - Sports includes BT Sport.
Watch and stream on all your screens with our Virgin TV 360 box and Mini box.

Currently only £110 Quidco cashback for the bundle but better than nothing, that should pay your Netflix for almost a year. :)

I stopped using Quidco years ago as TCB nearly always pays more, they're paying £155 for the same package. I can also get it for £79 a month with £100 bill credit however that's through another site (defence discount) so I'm not sure it'll track with TCB.

If you are a premium user and you submit a better offer, they will match it + more on top.

Well even if TCB didn't track you'd still be 18 x£10 better off, for just losing the £55 extra and taking into account the £100 bill credit as the other £100. Effective cost per month would only be £73.44 for 18 months with the last option.

FYI the 5G unlimited SIM uses Vodafone, and 4G uses EE so it is actually pretty decent.

I'm stuck in contract with EE until December I think and my mrs has to use 3 as she travels a lot and uses their roaming.

Also my £79 offer includes a £35 activation fee, and the main Virgin site is currently offering a free TV or up to £250 bill credit.

Services aren't activated yet, not sure when it will be but the cab has power, there was network testing going on at it today and all 'blockage clearing' I saw on one.network are now gone so I assume it's going to be soon.

I can't wait for the increased broadband speed, the download and upload will be a dream after bing on FTTC 60/15 for the best part of 6 years.

Well it far cheaper then my £852 per year and that with no sports , no Ultra HD, No Ultimate TV addon and no VAT

If he had no sports then it only be around £40 per month (£480 per year)

Do you just not bother to negotiate? Can't complain if you just sit there and take it. :D :p

Hi,

I've had Sky since they got F1, and still have the old deal/package they offered at the time which is basically just a HD Pack and Sky F1. I've got the same SkyHD box and it's now starting to struggle speed wise and the HDD is clonking.

I've negotiated cheaper prices a few times, but here is what I am currently paying:

What are my options here? Ideally I'd like:
- SkyQ Box (website is offering this for £99) for free.
- Cheaper Monthly bills
- Investigate potential for multi-screen (2 more rooms)

Questions:
Can you now install the SkyQ box yourself? Can I buy one second hand and fit it?

How do the new multi room boxes work? Assume they work over WiFi or ethernet and don't need a satellite connection

My kids have quite a lot of content on the current HD box. Can this be transferred to another/SkyQ box?

I currently have the Ultimate Oomph, sadly I am moving to a non VM area so will dropping down to Sky in the coming months.
Sky is going to be £11 more expensive than VM for no multiroom, 150mb v 550mb internet and no free sim which I use as my main line (so will now have to move elsewhere). The Sky package is nowhere near as good which makes me very sad indeed.

Thanks MisChief. Is it yourself that works at Sky and can see/negotiate packages for customers?

What options do you think I would have to reduce the above payments and/or get Sky Q... Happy to change just my HD box for now, maybe add multi room later on if it's a large expense.

I take it I'd be best to keep hold of my current bundle of I want to retain SkyF1 in HD?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Yes I work at Sky but I no longer work on the Domestic side so I have no idea on pricing or what offers are available anymore. One thing I will say though, if you move to Q you WILL have to change your package and move onto Sky Signature and if you want the F1 then add either that as a single channel or take full Sports. There's usually an offer of £10/£12pm for the F1 only at the beginning of the season as well.

Your best bet is to ring up and say you want to cancel and get transferred to the retention team, they can give you the best offers.

Ok, thanks for coming back to me, much appreciated. I'll see what they will offer me.

Definitely threaten to leave and see what they offer. However, they will throw on discounts more easily if you go through with the cancellation and look out for the deals and whatnot they send you via email to try and get you back (make sure you have marketing options ticked on your account!). You have 30 days IIRC so can cancel the cancellation and re-sign with some nice deals.
Mine was done on Black Friday, so i guess i'll be going down the cancellation route next time as it's an 18 month contract.

For reference, this is mine.

Ok, so I gave them a call and got through to cancellations/retentions and they offered me:

- Free SkyQ Box + Install
- Free Sky Router & Setup for Sky Superfast Broadband (currently with EE for Broadband @ £26 pcm but contract ends soon)
- Sky Signature + F1 HD
- Free Sky Multiroom + 1x Minibox
All the above for £0 setup fee, £69 per month.
Or they'll offer the same with Ultra HD for £73 per month.

Still think it's too expensive, so I said id think about it and call them back.
They refused to email the quote though, which is annoying.

Thoughts?
