*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

If you're in contract you can't cancel or get out of it.
You can’t cancel your TV due to the price rises if in contract, but you can cancel any broadband or landline contract you have by giving Sky notice within 30 days of receiving the price change letter. You have to tell them though, it’s not automatic.

SO if Sky decided to put my TV bill up by £50 a month I can't cancel?

Not if it's within contract, unless you're willing to pay early termination.

Massive price hikes usually only occur at end of contract.

Either way, ring up and give them hell if you're unhappy.

It's pretty disgusting behaviour. Unfortunately I can't get Virgin Media where I am and I love F1 and want UHD... Sky have a monopoly on my TV needs (wants).

There is a limit, it used to be 10% but that might have changed. Anything above the amount in the T’s &C’s is grounds to cancel.

Looks like it’s still 10%.

Will the price of my subscription(s) rise during the Minimum Term?
Under the Sky digital Subscription Contract we can increase the prices for the Stand-alone Premium Channels or extra Sky Premium Channels at any time during the Minimum Term.
However, in all other cases during the Minimum Term we can only increase the relevant Subscription Payment once
in any 12 month period. This increase won’t affect you during the first 60 days of your subscription to your chosen service(s) and will not be more than either 10% of the standard price of your Option or the increase in the UK Retail Price Index over the last 12 months before we tell you about that price increase, whichever is greater. Under the Sky digital Subscription Contract, if at any time you change your chosen Service, you will pay the then current price for your new Service from the day you first receive it.

Once I get VM, would it cost me more to just keep the Sky Contract going, or would I be better off paying up front to cancel it all?
In terms of TV you can’t pay it off and cancel there and then, Sky will hold you to the contract. You could reduce your package to the most basic, pay the bill upfront and request cancellation in advance on the date your contract ends, but the contract will still remain.

I think all of the packages have a separate contract don't they, such as sport, movies etc? This is my current bill.

so you pay for sports complete pack but then still have to pay for sports in HD then add on the HD for some of the other channels. I mean it's just endless extra costs. HD should be free these days and the Ultra HD is where the cost is involved if you want that extra

As for how you got all those discounted so much as I didn't get any discounts on my HD, Kids. This is what I hate about SKY it's never the same for every person, it's who you pick it seems on the phone and seems so random.

To be fair, the ability to get a better price through negotiation is true of most services - cars, houses, electrical goods in shops, almost everything in fact.

I was kind and courteous throughout the whole renegotiation but they guy said he couldn't give any discounts to any of these which is why it's pure pot luck !

I think it depends on who you get through to, I went on live chat to cancel last summer and this was their first offer and I thought it was fair. I only ever watch movies and sports, my mrs watches the other stuff and Sky is used every day in this house.

Of course he said that. They all say that. It’s a negotiation, though so if you’re not happy, just push them or go through with a cancellation and get a better offer.

I was mid contract when renegotiating so couldn't do the whole cancel thing. I will in June but I won't even take up their offers. I am done with them.
