*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Sound like Sky Protect which is a bit of a scam, as Sky own the equipment and the responsibility resides with them to fix any issues. Sky Protect is not Sky.
yes could be, if so their introductory telephone spiel is rubbish - I'd said I think this is a scam call and put phone down after 30s of failed communication,
if sky shares it's membership list with them , hope they appreciate how customers will be p**** off

Got this beauty today:

"After 34 months away, dive back in to SKY TV my name"

Take the hint maybe? The best bit was the deal that wasn't even a deal at all - "Savings based on 31 day contract price"

Sounds like desperate times at SKY.

:D

Most companies are struggling a bit these days so a whacking up the subscription costs to show some margin increase etc. Keep shareholder happy, screw the punters

Spoke to Sky today.

Been a loyal customer for over 20 years, Have been paying £51 a month a while now for Sky Q base package with HD.

Asked about cancelling and what deals the retention team can do.

A 24 month contract for the same base package, £44.

I'd cancel today but the other half wants to record stuff that we can get without Sky.

I need to look at how we get all the Freeview type stuff without Sky.

My contacts up in a few weeks for sky Q and I think its time to bin it. Im paying £100.50 for signature, sports, hd and multiroom.

Beyond sports eveything I watch is on fta channels and I have a nvidia shield tv for iplayer etc.

As Eurosport lost the cycling its just football and F1 I watch.

The challenge is I rarely watch anything live. For example I watched the last 2 GPs when I got up rather than staying up all night. The same with football, Im usually busy when games start but like recording them to, say, start watching an hour later.

I think my best option is Now TV but I dont know what the time-shifting is like on that eg If I miss the first half an hour of a game do I just miss it or is it avalible later on demand ?

I'll probably sign up to Now for a month and see if I can live with it before deciding what to do with Sky Q.

We used to record everything when we had Sky but once you leave, you realise you really don't need to.
On demand will serve you perfectly well.

For me that is fine, I had to talk wifey into it as she is the one who likes to record stuff. I installed the 'U' channel app on our LG TV and ran it on the TV, showed her the Marlow murder club streaming in HD and she said straight away it looks much better than on the Sky Q box. We watched a couple of episodes.

Today I am cancelling sky.

We'll see how it goes and I'm prepared to get a 1Tb Freesat box to record stuff if required.

The biggest downside at the moment is the lack of full fibre broadband, I'm stuck with 55mb which is ok until everyone in the house is streaming/gaming.

Yep, a Freesat PVR is your best bet. Streaming doesn't cover all the channels and you have to sit through loads of un-skippable ads on everything bar iPlayer.

Personally I use a HDHomeRun Freeview tuner device on my network and Plex on my NAS box which works really well, as you get all sorts of stuff like 4 tuners, remote viewing, ad skipping, but that obviously requires a bit more messing around to get set up (and a cheap Plex subscription), but there are still some decent Freeview PVRs out there if you want to keep it simple, and cheap!

Both ITV and Ch4 have options to remove ads from viewing.

Don't those cost about £5 per month each though? A Freeview PVR gets you that functionality on all channels for free (after the initial cost of the box, which you'll soon recoup). I've also heard that they show you some ads "for contractual reasons" even if you pay for the ad free option.

Yep but they're an option and with regards to ITVX Premium, one we're happy to pay.

Well. I have cancelled SKY (and direct debit) today. As I am not in Contract, they still insisted there is a 31 day cancellation time so won't officially end until the end of April.

I also got gigaclear to kick the full fibre issue into touch.

Only if you don't like Sport. Catch up won't give you full football matches, full F1 races, full NFL games, etc. It's my main bug bear about subscribing to NowTV. I have to watch everything live, or obtain it via other means.

Indeed and sticking with Sky for F1 was one of the reasons I stayed for so many years.
Now I use F1 TV Pro and it's superior to Sky in every way.

I've no interest in Football so can't comment on that but I also subscribe to Peacock and am sure I've seen NFL on there. Again that's not my thing so I'm not sure to what extent they cover it.

My contract is up next month. I see new customers get a choice of either sky essential or sky ultimate.

My package has been sky signature. They want £28 to renew it, but I can't find anywhere what is included in this package that the other 2 dont have. Also will go up by £4 from next month.

They are also dropping my "ultimate TV add on" which had netflix premimum with no ads, and replacing it with "boost to netflix basic......Includes your new Ultimate TV Pack with Netflix Basic"

Do either essential or ultimate come with sky boxsets, which as I recall is part of the signature pack ?

Sky are still inept when it comes to their package naming.
Sky Signature is still the base pack with Sky Q. Essential and Ultimate both relate to Sky Stream/Glass.
Sky Signature still has more channels than Ultimate on Stream. You can continue to have it and pay extra for Netflix Premium.
There is a Sky Q Essentials package but this is just free-to-air channels on the Q box, with the ability to record them. It can cost as little as a fiver a month.

Been with Sky for longer than I can remember, they didn't even try to keep me this time around just processed the cancellation.

Personally I don't see the need for it but will see how the wife adjusts to not being able to pause/rewind etc... wish me luck! :P
