Sky Updated Epg

I just did the forced update and my box went to 15P but I don't have HDMI DD audio still.

I also just noticed under network it shows Service Connection - Fail, is this because I don't have the phone line connected?

15p isn't the latest version, it's just the latest version that can be force-updated. You'll have to wait for your box to update itself.

Service is for your On Demand connection. Try pressing select then red on network.

Phone line thing? updates/forced updates are all done via satellite. The phone line is only for multiroom, viewing statistics and interactive/ordering.

I think that's what he means. I agree with it too, a few times I've wanted to to browse the store on there and see what movies are for rent but because it just complains that I don't have a phoneline connected, I haven't bothered. The box has a connection to the internet, it should be able to use that.

What I find annoying is Sky keep churning out all these updates every year or so changing stuff I don't care about, changing layout to confuse people etc but they won't sort out something fundamental like the ability to rent on demand movies via the wireless dongle. Whole point of hooking up the wireless was to avoid needing a phone line plugged in :/

Reading around on forums it seems there's plenty of others pretty peeved at it as well, it just seems a no-brainer to me, Sky would actually get more rentals if they made it easier for customers by allowing you to validate rentals via the internet rather than phone line. Aside from the recent fix for 5.1 over HDMI I can't think of anything more important they could be working on, it would just be a win-win for all parties, making it easier for customers and bringing in more box office revenue for them.

Only thing I can think is maybe there are some deals behind the scenes with third parties who have a vested interest in people having their phone line connected to it (interactive services etc).

Speaking of on Demand/rentals... what annoys me is films that were once on free to view part of your subscription such as Superman, Iron Man and so on, costs £2.59. Why are they charging for films that weren't on pay-per-view?

Sky will buy the rights to show the film free either permanently or on a limited basis depending on the deal they strike at the time. The studios will get a cut on the ppv stuff.
