Skylake-X Lineup Leaked: i9-7980XE 18 Core Flagship Processor

I went back a page ( a few ) and the Guru3D link, links to Videocardz that doesn't show those CPUs on 1151.

Indeed, it would seem that the website selling them, had the wrong info... DOH!

So yes, a 4c/4t CPU on socket 2066 is utter fail

Also, the 8c/16t 7800X at $599 = £580ish, mean's that with the added cost of a high end X299 board, circa £200+, you are paying over double the cost of a R7 1700 with a board, which could be a £70 B350, or a mid range X370 if you wanted.

So, good job Intel, poor value again.

I'll wait to see what AMD have to offer with X399, and Threadripper cause it can't be worse value than this.

x299 is the high end tier its not about value

its like saying a Ferrari is dearer than a corsa :p

its a premium because its higher tier.just how it is.also ryzen still is slower across the board than x99 stuff.on avg.

so it will be a faster product so you gunna pay for it.

Performance is the only thing that matters when you are comparing CPU's, doesn't matter if it's core count, thread count, clock speed, cache etc. If one CPU is out performed by another, and is half the cost for the TCO, then it makes no sense to buy the other.

You should have said, it's like buying a Tesla Model S with ludicrous speed, vs. a Ferrari F12berlinetta, one costs $140,000, the other is $320,000 - and yet the both offer similar performance.

4 core 4 thread i5 for £250 0_0

Sorry Intel as long as AMD is competitive I will not pay these crazy prices.

'Stares lovingly at R7 1700'

yeah the 4 core is rather silly but what we have to remember is these chips are on a high end platform with all the bells and whistles you can think off, also it was brought forward due to ryzen so this is intel pushing stuff out faster as a stop gap, id expect a more rounded response sometime towards the end of next year, but id wait for coffee lake to see a more sensibly priced cpu v ryzen 1700 and 1800's. and yes thats if intel dont have a stroke and try charging too much.

It's confirmed, neither Kabylake X or Skylake X are soldered.

Not really true. Core count means nothing if all you are doing on your computer is single threaded operations. In that case you could have a million core CPU and it would still perform the same as a single core CPU. Maybe even worse as a single core CPU would be able to clock higher.

You need to understand the workload you are going to be putting on a CPU before you can decide if a particular CPU is going to be better or worse than another one. A 5Ghz single core CPU would be massively better than a 3Ghz 16 core CPU for some people. Likewise a 3Ghz 16 core CPU would be massively better than a 5Ghz single core CPU for others.

For me more cores is better than raw clock speed because video rendering is massively parallel operation and the more cores you throw at it the faster it goes. For others it might not be such a good idea to go for these high core count CPUs.

Re-read my post, that you quoted, cause you just agreed with me.

This changes everything

i was nailed on to get one release day now i will wait and see for temps and OC headroom

FFS intel

Yeah, considering the 7700K delidded and getting new TIM saw a 23-30 degree drop in max temps; I kinda shudder to think what the new 8-18 core processors could possibly run at under max load if someone tries to overclock any of them.

I doubt there will be any overclocking unless under some serious water cooling or are delidded. It's like they are ignoring all of their customers :/

we know these have been brought forward im guessing no one informed the marketing/sales department about ryzen prices. yes its a hedt platform and isnt aimed at us lowly gamers specifically or home users but these prices especially in the mid to lower range need to drop unless these things have some monstrous performance we dont know about yet.

Judging by how much info we have on the 10 core part vs the rest I think its fair to say that Intel never had any intention of offering more cores this year if it wasn't for ryzen. TBH if AMD had managed to keep a lid on all the leaks regarding threadripper I honestly think intel would have launched with a 10 core part being the top spec one.

The funny bit is that the lower end KabyLakeX doesn't even support quad channel ram. Only dual channel. There is point for them in the HEDT platform
