Smart Fortwo DCT Mechanical Problem

Nobody was advising replacing anything specialised or elaborate with something different, but the little black self tapping screws aren't anything special.
the clips have got to be in the repair bill somewhere, so when the garage said £75 , whatever it was, for fixtures, probably embedded in that.

If you search the part number the OP provided it is just listed as the little self tapping screw at £7.50 a piece. I've not seen a part fiche where it wouldn't then list the nut/clip/assembly of both as something different.

@nlel1975 probably needs to ask them where the clips/fixtures are coming from , to see if it is was an 'embedded' cost/item in the screws total - or a benevolent garage.

In reality, @nlel1975 actually just needs to leave it alone, stop getting involved and constantly phoning the dealer to ask stupid questions based on all of us trying to wind him up about cheaper bolts, let the dealer do what he's paying them to do and forget about it until they phone him saying it's all ready to fit.

Tbf it sounds like we've saved him 75 quid at least.

Yeah as they’ve agreed to take on the work it’s their problem not mine. I’m going to wait a few months for the parts they’ve ordered to arrive and if they don’t I’m going to ask for my car to be serviced. It’s already a month overdue a service due to waiting for parts.

Been in contact with a Smart dealer in the UK, got prices for all parts and quantities listed here...

https://www.catcar.info/mercedes/smart

The parts come to £617.93 including 5% GST and that includes 25x official M6x20 bolts at £1.73 each. Main dealer here said they may use Wurth brand instead.

Labour is £ 90.30 including 5% GST. So if worst comes to the worst and I need all the official parts listed above I'm looking at £708.23 in total. Main dealer said the site I linked to above isn't official so they can't go by it.

At least I have an idea how much it may cost, I've been quoted £298.73 including 5% GST plus whatever the Wurth bolts cost, but that doesn't cover all the parts that may or may not be needed.

Again let me advise you my undertray on my M5 cost me £400 odd to replace by BMW, and it was only 4 years old at the time. That's a 200+ mph car where I'm assuming the undertray needs to be more secure. Just let the dealer do what they need to do.

Yeah at least by contacting them I’ve got them to change the screws on order from the incorrect A4159905400 which cost £7.50 each to the M6x20 Wurth bolts instead. Even the official M6x20 screws A4159901711 are only £1.73 each. Wurth ones are $0.18 which converts to 15p a screw.

What if you've now talked them into ordering the wrong bolt/screw/fitting but now when they find out it'll be your problem rather than theirs because that's what you told them to order...

Even the service manager admitted the under tray screws were just standard M6x20. No idea why they had those £7.50 screws on order.

Here's a breakdown of all the parts and prices as per this catalogue which the dealer says is unofficial https://www.catcar.info/mercedes/smart

A4536840800 COVER SUBSTRUCTURE x1 £95.50 ex GST
A4536843800 COVER SUBSTRUCTURE x1 £91.50 ex GST
A4536846000 COVER SUBSTRUCTURE x1 £72.50 ex GST
A4536842800 COVER SUBSTRUCTURE x1 £22.40 ex GST
A4536841700 COVER SUBSTRUCTURE x2 £18.90 ex GST
A4159901711 M6X20 x25 £41.25 ex GST
A4159901050 M6 x3 £7.65 ex GST
A4536841100 COVER SUBSTRUCTURE x1 £103 ex GST
A4536844000 COVER SUBSTRUCTURE x1 £95.00 ex GST
A4159900956 SPRING NUT x4 £11.80 ex GST
A4539900156 SPRING NUT x3 £5.70 ex GST
A4539980077 SNAP FASTENER x3 £6.00 ex GST
A4536841900 COVER SUBSTRUCTURE x2 £17.30 ex GST

Parts £588.50 ex GST
Parts £617.93 inc GST

Maybe I don't need them all hence why the dealer hasn't got most of them on order. I'm leaving it to them now, its their responsibility to do the job right and to order all the correct parts.

If you want to start a gofundme, as director ?, I'm sure nlel can put the funds to useful endeavour
- bettering a remake of all quiet on the western front shouldn't be difficult this evening

No you're not, don't tease us like that.
Yes I am I’ve got the official part prices from the unofficial catalog which may be wrong and am leaving it with them to do the job properly with the correct parts. There’s nothing else that I can do at my end.

I know @Armageus thinks I’m crazy for even contemplating £41.25 ex GST for 25x M6X20 screws but they did say they may use the Wurth brand instead. Also 3x M6 flange nuts for £7.65 ex GST and 4x SPRING NUTS for £11.80 ex GST.

The COVER SUBSTRUCTURES are specific to the car so unlikely that cheaper equivalents are available.
