Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

Android wear was just updated for the LG G Watch...obviously there are a few tweaks all over but more importantly, 3 new watch face's.

Mine just updated this morning, I really like the new watch faces and hopefully this might fix some of the annoying random little disconnects I have been getting (still not sure if it is the watch or my phone causing them)

IP67 should mean it can be held up to 1M underwater for 30 mins...

That was my point though, IP67 means it's water resistant, NOT water proof.

The Apple watch might have a lower rating still than the Android watches, which would be a bit of a poor show.

Must admit I thought Apple were going to nail the Smart Watch. Personally it looks like cracks are appearing without Mr Jobs. I think it will be not until the iPhone 7 will they make a decent looking wearable. Makes me laugh though at all the concepts people made, it's nothing like any of them.

For me the only thing that the Apple Watch has over the competition is a decent standard strap !

The poor battery of the moto 360 is a let down, but deal breaker for me is the dated internals.

I was all set to get one but I might as well wait for the Moto 720 now.

I don't want a camera on a watch. The only reason to have a camera on a smartwatch is if you're a pervert.

It's utterly pointless otherwise.

Do you need a separate sim card and therefor mobile contract if you want one of these? Or is there some kind of sharing system you can use so ones with sim-cards share the number or something?

Downloaded two custom watchfaces for my LG G Watch today and quite like both of them.

Orbits Watchface for Moto 360 (allows it to be used on the G Watch)
Watch Face - Modern Classics

Modern classics in particular is very clear, very classy looking and fits the square frame rather well. I'm currently using that as it also looks great when in ambient mode.

I don't think there's an Android Wear watch that takes a SIM card yet.

Quite right, don't know where I read that.

Although it does look like one might be incoming sometime soon, I don't suppose there would be a way of sharing the phone number however as I can't see the network being able to support that functionality.

Was thinking exactly the same thing. Plus the camera quality is bound to be poor with such a small camera module.

They said the same thing when phones got a camera ;)
I like the look of it.

Samsung S watch takes a nano sim.

The Samsung Gear S isn't an Android Wear device, it's their own Tizen OS like the initial Gear devices (be nicer if they gave them different names tbh)

Just received an email from motorola inviting me to purchase my 360 today... $250
Out of stock :( I was only sent the email 3 hours ago lol

EDIT: After reading the above I'm somewhat dissapointed :(

For those that want a rundown of the review...

The Good
A round LCD that looks like something from the future. Yeah, it's missing a few lines at the bottom. So what?
A thin-bezel and a great design that looks like a watch.
Thanks to the round design, and small lug-to-lug distance, it's the first comfortable smartwatch.
It's got auto brightness!

The Bad
Terrible performance. The decision to go with an ancient TI OMAP3 instead of a more modern Snapdragon 400 makes the device slow and stuttery.
Terrible battery life. That TI chip also sucks down a lot of power. Expect to charge it 2-3 times per day during heavy use.
The Bluetooth phone-to-watch connection is unstable and loses connection randomly. Every Android Wear device we've tested does this.
The leather strap looks and feels cheap. It's way better than other smartwatches, but that's a very low bar.

The Ugly
The crushing disappointment after six months of hype.

Charge 2-3 times a day!?!? What use use is that
