Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

I quite like the look of the Galaxy 4 Classic, not sure what to expect having not had a smart watch before ! Is it a bit counter productive to go for an older model now the galaxy 5s are out there?
Nope, I just bought one of these. They are fully featured and include the rotating bezel. The 5 loses that but gains some battery life.

Depends what price you can get the 4 classic or 5 Pro for , 4 should get updates till 2026 . I would say i've not overly missed the bezel now I have the 5 Pro , body heat sensors in the 5 that are not in the 4 but not been activated yet took a while for ECG in earlier watches too or they may wait for the release of the watch 6

Any decent proper no gap leather straps available for the Watch 5 Pro? I don't mind the official hybrid leather, but the silicone inner is not my favourite thing.

I've had a look around and they're all pretty meh. Thinking about getting some of the no gap couplers and then going for a normal strap for it.

I've gone for the 4 Classic, hopefully it will be here tomorrow and plan on using it with a Pixel 7 Pro.

Got the watch for £182 in the end using other halves John Lewis discount and an extra 5%code we had.

Seemed fair for a first time purchase in to the smart watch space :)

I have considered buying a smart watch a few times but im not sure I would make use of it, I dont wear a watch (just check the phone) and I dont know what else a smart watcgh can do other than phone notifications

Could anyone share your experience and the reason for getting one?
What do you use the smart watch for ?

What do you use the smart watch for ?

- Tracking workouts and walks/steps.
- Taking quick calls and sending / receiving messages on the go.
- Glancing at chance of rain.
- Controlling music while working out.
- Leaving my phone at my desk and still having access to notifications.
- with LTE going for a run without your phone.
- Settings timers and having it work as a silent alarm in the morning.

- Health tracking ECG,blood presure & oxygen levels
- It tells the time ;)

Nice to have but nothing is near needed for my use.

Does blood presure & oxygen levels really work ?
Doctors would say, only the uprear arm one give you a real reading

You calibrate it monthly with an arm blood prerssure monitor , I have same my doctor uses and my watch has been pretty accurate the monitor might say 125 watch will read 124 or 126 its only a guide at the end of the day

I would use one Health tracking but it would need to be accurate and not too pricy. the other extras would be a bonus.

I was the same, last week I decided to go for a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (46mm)

I went for this over the more recent 5/5Pro almost solely based on aesthetics.

The 4 classic has a sexy physical bezel that you can turn to navigate the watch (as well as just using touch) but It just looks more like a watch to me.

And it's at a reduced price now so for a first time smart watch, I thought it made sense to not go mad price wise.

So far I really like it. Took some getting used to as I don't wear a normal watch as it is. I wanted it to skip tracks, adjust volume etc on Spotify and so on whilst at work without having to pick up my phone and it works wonders for that. Taking a message etc has actually shown it's usefulness already and Google pay. Never used that before on my phone, set it up on the watch and its just convenient .

I've gone for the Hybrid one you mentioned here. Coming tomorrow, in Camel. Was on offer actually but not in all colours.

Hard to tell what's good quality on Amazon with all the random brands.

Have never worn a smart watch but now interested as really want to track my sleep. How good is the Samsung watch 5 for this?

I use my watch 4 to track sleep, It does an "ok" job but i use "sleep as android" to manually start and finish when i go to bed and when i get up , Because the watch sometimes thinks i'm still asleep/trying to sleep if i don't get out of bed and moving straight away.

If you work shifts at all , It records sleeping in the day as "Naps" and then nags you about it.

Accuracy / Insights wise, i found fitbit better to look at my results , but otherwise the watch does a decent job.

Also just be aware that (and appreciate it doesn't happy to everyone) , you might get a rubbish night of 4-5 hours sleep, but wake up feeling ok, then you look at your sleep log, and immediately feel tired because "i must be tired" .. Easy trap to fall into.

Hi thanks for your detailed feedback. Actually when I used a sleep tracker in the past,I found that it helped me sleep better and also feel much better in the morning lol. I actually put in more effort into my sleeping then lol. I'm looking forward to it as well as using the watch esim and leave my phone home when I go to the gym. How much practical is that feature? I know this will need an additional subscription with EE for the esim but how practical is it to answer and reply to messages on the phone, granted to answering calls I'll use my earbuds?

Has anyone found comfortable straps for the watch 5?. I'm trying to use it as a sleep tracker but finding that the straps aren't too comfortable for overnight use!

Not sure if already discussed, but there are rumours and leaks of a Ticwatch Pro 5 going through regulatory steps.

I'll be keeping an eye on this as a replacement to my TWP3, which I've been very happy with on the whole.
