Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

Does the urbane have a light sensor, or has only to moto 360 got that (hence the tyre)?

No. Neither of the LG round watches have it. I don't think the Urbane 2 does either. I don't find it an issue though and don't really miss it from my 360.
It is winter though so not mega bright outside. My opinion may change in the summer.

:o I've wasted most of my afternoon looking at the various models. I didn't need a dumb watch in the morning so am not sure wtf I need one now

Urbane v1 does not have an ambient sensor whereas the moto v2 does.

I think we'll have a fair few bargains this week with black friday to tempt the mugs like me so I'm going to hold off for a few days.

Interestingly spec wise the Sony smartwatch 3 is going for £100 and has all the features including the android 5.1 update - less the heart rate monitor. Unfortunately it's ugly, screen doesn't look great and the strap can't be upgraded to anything decent.

If there are any deals on the urbane I'll take it or fallback to the Sony as my first dive into android wear...... let's hope I just forget about the idea by the end of the week :D

Hi All,

I am looking to purchase my first smartwatch. I have been looking at the lg urbane and moto 360 v1.

Main features i am looking for is heart rate monitor and integration with strava app for my cycling.

is there any other watches i should look out for ? I know the moto 360 v2 is coming out in jan. is it better to wait for that or is there a better alternative to the LG and motorola ?

I got myself one in the sale a while back to pair up with my Sony Z3, I love it. Get a couple of days battery out of using at work then switching off at night, I get ticket notifications from spiceworks, which is really handy.
It's also made me obsessed with Google Fit telling me my steps for the day. I know it's not going to be accurate but still interesting getting a rough estimate.
The USB charge port is a little fiddly and I'm convinced I'll break the rubber cover for it eventually (I try to be careful with it) charge time is really quick it'll go from <10% to 95% in just under an hour.
I wasn't to sure about them until I caught it in a sale, you get little whatsapp alerts, exchange emails, gmail etc and can do simple replies or simply speak your replies.
The rubber finish of the strap is rough none slip and the clasp is simple to secure.
I've not noticed any wear and tear on it and I've put a screen protector over it as I know sooner or later I'd end up brushing it against something scratching the display.
Overall I'm really happy with it and recommend it straight away.

Thanks, you have convinced me i might just go for the smartwatch 3 :D

Keep toying with either the Huawei watch or Moto 360 2 - The Moto has ambient light sensor and is £100 cheaper but the Huawei has a better (OLED) screen.

Thoughts?

Well I'm going to replace my Moto 360 v1 with the v2 after seeing the brown cognac one in the flesh, the thing is stunning! :D

I just can't warrant paying the additional £100 for the Huawei watch over the 360 and I'm one of the few who don't mind the flat tire one bit :)

Got me a pebble watch (original), i must say loving the 7 day battery, and also £50, i dont have buyers remorse like I did with the apple watch and moto 360

Pebble not as high tech than the apple watch but it's serves it's purpose fine

:) I wanted to 'try' a smart watch, and rather than splashing on a 360-2 or Huawei, I ordered the Pebble Steel (£79) yesterday just to try, with up to 10 days battery life it'll be interesting to see how I get on..

Android wear is really coming along and if someone can nail the battery life a bit, I'll probably jump on board next year!

I don't get the whole thing about the baterry life, I take my watches off every night anyways so sitting one down on a wireless charger just isn't an issue for me!

Each to their own but as long as mines gets through a day I'm fine with it.

I charge my moto360 every night, with my normal usage tho it's still around 60% when i go to bed so would probably not need it, but it's part of the going to bed ritual.
