Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

Great you got something that works for you.

Now then Misfit Vapour VS Gear S3

The gear S3 wins in the Looks dept.\battery life(lasts 3 times longer)\charger\short cuts for apps.
The Misfit wins in the better screen(more colourful and clearer) and android 2. That's it really. The vapour is not worth £130 I paid for it, @£99 it would be great.

I kept the Vapour because I could load the apps I needed on to my watch. Where as with Tizen I could not do that.
I won't be buying another smart watch until some company puts these in to one
Stand alone GPS with stand alone maps. 1.4+ screen\2 or more reprogrammable buttons\NFC\Mic and Speaker.

One review says it has GPS and another says it doesn't. Does yours?

Vapor definitely doesn't have GPS. I'm looking at upgrading my Vivoactive and ruled out the Vapor due to needing a phone for GPS.

:(

Could've been the watch I'm waiting for.

Why can't I get GPS,Android OS and a circular face for a reasonable price!

I've had a 360 2nd\Gear S3 and now the Vapour non did stand alone GPS with stand alone maps. I think the old Gear can now.
Unless I missed something.

Sigh. Another example today of how an Android Wear/Google Fit feature just decides to stop randomly working.

I go running with my LG Watch Sport so that I can track my run and listen to music, with the benefit that I don't have to take my phone as the watch has its own SIM connection that allows me to stream music to my Bluetooth earphones.

Usually my runs sync with Google Fit (using the Google Fit app on the watch, rather than using a 3rd party service that's connected to fit) and I can view the results on my phone. However, last night's run doesn't return any map data and leads me to believe the run pace is based on estimated steps/strides.

The previous 6 runs all have GPS/map data and I've not changed a single setting.

Any strap recommendations for the S3 Gear Frontier? I seem to be having a reaction near the end of the day to the strap and it making my wrist itchy.

Preferably a metal strap as i think its the rubber thats causing the issue

Folks. Got my Gear S3 Classic today. Lovely watch.

However foolishly purchased without checking if there exists a traver charger version. It just seems I can only use the dock.

Is my understanding correct? Is there no "portable version" or some kind of magnetic contact similar to the apple watch charger?

When I had mine I had a phone battery power pack with me. That charged the watch ok, via the dock.

I'm selling my Misfit vapour and on the look out for something good and new.

Cheers deuse.
Sorry I probably didn't ask my question correctly.

The power source for me is not the problem its just when I get to my destination what I can use to charge the watch.
And from what I can see there isn't a "portable version" of the magnetic docking station charger that comes with the S3.

E.g. the apple watch charger is just a magnetic tab and quite easy to stuff into a cable bag, whereas the docking connector for the watch is a little bit cumbersome for travel purposes.

I see.

You know when you got it, the watch was around the charger and a insert? I used it like that

The dock for the S3 is tiny, it's probably one of the smallest pieces of tech that I pack when I am travelling!

2.9 will introduce a notification dot: https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2018/01/android-wear-sdk-and-emulator-update.html

Would be really handy as I currently have an external complication to tell me if I have any notifications, since 2.0 killed off the card peeks from previous versions.

My G watch R was recently updated to 2.8 and i now see a dot at the bottom with a number telling me how many missed items i have, not sure if that is normal or if it is because i installed Ifttt recently as i never set anything up with it.

Haven't noticed that on mine and I got 2.8 recently. I also have IFTTT installed. What watch face are you using?

I've been leaning towards a smartwatch, was all but set to buy the Gear S3 until I heard about issues with how reliable the HRM was. Might have to wait for the next generation unless something else comes along to blow me away.
