I'm waiting for 80 years of socialism to finally die here, not to have more of it. I'm prepared for when the welfare checks bounce.
Ahahahahah

Whats funny? Imagine those London riots x10, in every city. Thats what it will look like when the debt dies up (or they QE to £20 loafs of bread).
Enjoy it when it comes.

I will, but considering that every economic collapse in the past was only ever partial...and nothing really occurred that was too serious...I am inclined to just not care.
That's the problem with people, they always go on what has happened in the past. Then every time something NEW happens, "no-one could have seen it coming!!".
"Generals always fight the last war, especially if they have won it".
Nothing else in nature works like that, nature always over-compensates, not compensate exactly to the last highest threat.
To make it a bit more clear, natural systems always assume the next stress will be more harsh than anything before, and adapt to that stress (think weight lifting or skin calluses).
Human psychology assumes the previous highest stress is as worse as it could be, and adapts to that. Then when the inevitable higher stress arrives, they are unprepared.
We did in fact see 2007 coming, but no one bothered to listen.
What do you see in your crystal ball kwerk?
For what, an independent Scotland? Something between Romania and Lithuania.
Scotland has nothing to offer the world. All the smartest Scots left ages ago.
And even if they got to keep their oil and could defend it, they would likely just turn in to another typical corrupt "resource curse" country.
Nothing to offer?
Considering how many foreign folk come to our Universities, I beg to differ.
Oh and before you denounce that as poor, education has been our forefront commodity since the enlightenment.
Or is it tarrot cards? Star signs?
The Mayan calander, isn't it?
For example your door gets kicked in and your house is robbed, so you buy a stronger door. Then next week they bump the lock and rob you again, so you buy bump-proof locks. Then next week they smash a window and rob you again, so you buy window bars. Then next week... and so on.
Do you see the problem yet?
Nothing to offer?

To say that their success stemmed from oil perhaps isn't all that unfair, it was the initial driver that gave them the freedom to develop the varied modern economy. It's certainly not all there is to the economy now but it provided a good deal of impetus for them to develop further.
Perhaps they will but I'd feel fairly comfortable that given Norway's prediliction for approaching rehabilitation as a good thing rather than just something tacked on at the end they're likely to give a reasonable attempt at an evaluation rather than it being a foregone conclusion he'll always be declared unfit for release.
