The only good thing to come from splitting the Union would be Labour losing a large chunk of their voter base...
Yeah cause Labour is totally the marvel of a socialist entity.
God, you would think people would start noticing them for what they are.
What the UK?
That will be gone.
Why and where?
You think they will kick the uk (more importantly that financial behemoth that is London) out just because scotland goes independent?![]()
I thought that's the way most people felt. I've yet to meet an Englishman, Scotsman, Welshman or Northern Irishman who is British first and their home country second.
So how would you feel being constantly told by a neighbour that you are incapable of running your own household and that they will do it all for you. Sounds good? Well maybe, up until they take all of your wages away, hand you back a pittance and continually refer to you as a stone around their neck and nothing better than a scrounger.
This is actually only happening in your head.
You have your own parliament for christ sakes.
Everyone in the UK is ruled by Westminster, its not just done like that to spite the forever complaining Scots.
He will also be declared unfit for release if it's likely he will be in danger in public. I see that as a very real possibility for the rest of his life.
He's just over estimating or holding an inflated opinion of how important Scotland is to the UK, he seems to see Scottish Independence as the UK splitting in two, not just a small part fragmenting off.
Edinburgh is or was one of the top three financial centres in Europe, there's a fair drop off after London but that's still a fairly impressive point to note..

As for whether Scotland would be a net contributor or not to the EU if it were to become independent - I don't know and I don't care to guess, you can split the figures many ways and they might all be (at least partly) true depending on the starting assumptions.
Er not really.
Edinburgh is the back end administration side of finance. All the real action happens down in London.
The backend functions can happen anywhere, it just so happens they have conglomerated on Edinburgh.
Would be very easy to up sticks and move to another location should the barmy fat controller get his way.

What amuses me is the silent minority completely ignored on both sides of the border - English and Welsh folk living in Scotland who will get a vote, how on earth do they feel about it? At times it feels like there's a flood of hate filled bile flowing in both directions with them stuck in the middle.

For what, an independent Scotland? Something between Romania and Lithuania.
Scotland has nothing to offer the world. All the smartest Scots left ages ago.
And even if they got to keep their oil and could defend it, they would likely just turn in to another typical corrupt "resource curse" country.
