He's been my favourite player for years - a proper professional who just gets on with things. Despite his height and role, he's actually not very strong, so don't be expecting a bruising ball winner. He's excellent on the ball and rarely gets ruffled, plus his little shimmies and step-overs always fool players. Can pick a pass on the floor well and reads the game very well, but never passes it above head height
That said, he's not the best tackler and once booked he'll not make a tackle for the rest of the game.
He's had a strange career with us. Was a distinctly average midfielder in League One, but we weren't a great side then and he was a good option for us. In our promotion season a couple of years ago he was farmed out to Portsmouth in League Two as he couldn't even get on our bench. Last season we had Douglas out for a game and most of us were a little concerned about Toumani replacing him... and he was incredible. Then followed it up with even better performances on our excellent run before Christmas, after we started playing him really deep in the midfield; he'll come short to pick it up off the keeper. He ended up winning fans player of the year.
This year he had been ok, but about ten games ago his form properly dropped and it seemed as if he just didn't want to be here. And that's fair enough as the shape and face of the club has changed so much over the last year. It became apparent that he fits perfectly into whichever side he's playing in - if you're doing well and playing quick passing football, he'll look incredible. If you're not playing well, with the ball up in the air, then he's completely anonymous. He has absolutely no goal threat whatsoever, and all the composure he has on the ball in his own half completely evaporates when near the opposition area. In fact, there's a (really unfunny) running joke in the stands that whenever he has the ball in the opposition half all the fans shout "Shoot"... his last attempt a few weeks ago started with the ball rolling down his knee, onto his shin and then looped up to clear the stand - no doubt he'll score against us on Tuesday. Sad to see him go however, as he's the final one of the old guard.
Oh, and don't call him Dave, he hates it.
