So, the Championship season has started **Spoilers**

Ehhh we'll have to agree to disagree LOAM.

Stephens won the ball, studs are above ramirezs leg because his foot was higher, Ramirez came in late and shinned the bottom of his foot. It's unfortunate more than anything.

Player with both feet off the ground, out of control of his momentum, leading with his studs. Whats to rescinded? The fact they even reviewed is the joke.

I completely disagree.... Especially that it is a joke to review it. There are 3 games left of the season. The 3 most important games of Brighton season. Give me one reason not to appeal?

What gets me is the way some people are reporting the 'tackle'. I saw someone describe Stephens as late earlier... It was Ramirez that was late. That was the whole problem!

Anyway it is done now.

FA are a joke, not willing to admit they made an error in the most expensive game in football!

Did they make a mistake though? It's absolutely debatable that it was a red and that's the most generous I can be with it. I've not gone looking for everyone's opinions on the matter but I've seen fans and ex players thinking it's harsh and other fans and ex referees thinking its correct.

Just back the ref

Unless there's evidence that it was absolutely the wrong decision it wont get overturned.

I don't think it was quite this bad.

Studs were above his leg, it's not like they were down near his ankle. Ramirez's leg came up to meet the studs. How high are studs allowed to be before it's dangerous, knee, thigh, chest?

As I said, at best I think it's a debatable red, winning the ball doesn't automatically let you get away with a reckless challenge.

It's an interesting point, and it seems as if the guiding factor in it all was the gaping hole in Ramirez' leg. I suppose context should be taken into account. Stephens had just had a snap at Ramirez a few seconds before and seemed to "have it in for him" - that's obviously a personal observation and entirely debatable but if you'd have told me 10 seconds that the game was going to have a sending off and one player left with a terrible injury then I'd have guess those two players would have been the perpetrator and victim.

A player can still win the ball but commit an offence, and red cards can be issued for "A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as serious foul play". Anyone who has ever played football will know that it's entirely possible to win a ball but be fully aware at the same time you're going to cause damage to another player, and Ramirez had his safety compromised.

I can fully see why BHA fans are indicating that it was a fair tackle, and that's why it's a tricky one. Personally, if I was a BHA fan I'd have wanted the red card challenged because he's such an important player for them.

Now on to the big story... it seems as if we're closing our academy! Three years in the planning and three years of running it - including the construction of an indoor facility - and we've decided to chuck it in. I fully support the decision, as financially it doesn't make sense to run it - but it's a shame nonetheless. it was costing Benham £3m to run and producing very average results. In the last season we've sold players for around £21.5m who we'd bought for £2.55m (less than our academy costs to run) and the financial sense is to reap the rewards of our ability to develop first teamers then to train up youth players.

Getting to the ball first is a bit of an irrelevance when you look at the broader context of how that was achieved. Players get to the ball first whilst leading with elbows and smashing peoples cheeks in all the time, it makes no difference and isn't an argument.

"Joke" is probably the wrong word, but Brighton would have known it would never be overturned. I do understand though that there was little to lose so that's probably what dictated the decision to try and I don't blame them for trying. It was however as frivolous as when Boro appealed Stuani's ban which he picked up following video evidence for leading with an elbow a couple of weeks ago. The only difference was they extended Stuani's because we appealed it, something I don't think they did yesterday with Stevens?.

I don't think Ramirez was "late", he had played the ball over his head and then turned, there was no way he could have known Stevens was where he was, off the ground with his studs up.

I hate players getting sent off, I think footballers are massive fannies but that was red card for me every day of the week. Not for the injury but because it was reckless, he had no way of preventing it because he was off completely off the ground at the time with his studs up.

Anyway it is done now.

We can agree on this bit though :p

Another season in the Championship then. Gonna be tough next season as I can't see Newcastle and Norwich not being up there.
I hope we can keep this group of players together, and add an actual goalscorer.

I just can't believe we haven't been promoted. Almost every season 89 points would be enough:(

Anyway, we go again:)

It was enough! :)

Some seasons you'd be champions with that points total but others you'd still not be top two

Do you really need a better goal scorer? You out scored Boro and we went up.

I think you'll be alright if you keep your core players, obviously strengthen if you can.

I think keeping the core of our team that lost in the final last year helped, they knew what it was like to just miss out.

Hopefully Brighton now have that same feeling and they can help keep Newcastle in the championship ;)

Going to be a big season in the Championship in 16/17. Some very big clubs coming down, some interesting sides coming up and a relaxation of FFP.

We had a bizarre season this last year, winning as many games as Sheffield Wednesday but losing as many as Fulham. Our season started terribly (relaying the pitch immediately, losing our marquee signing for the year, sacking our manager), picked up dramatically (at one point we had the 3rd best form in the league over 3 months), fell down the toiler (a 2016 record of 1 win, 1 draw and 10 losses) before finishing as one of the most in form sides in the country (7 wins from our final 9 games).

The last 12 months have been a massive upheaval for the club and involved significant restructuring across the board, but now we've developed a settled side and have a number of talented players returning from injury/returning to form, I reckon we could emulate out 14/15 season and reach the play-offs next term.

Looking forward to trips to Villa Park, St James's and the Pirelli, and hopefully an encouraging summer transfer window! :)

I might be proved wrong here, but I just can't see Villa posing a huge threat next year, not like Newcastle or Norwich.

Should be an interesting game tonight but Hull really have to keep that "typical City" complacency at bay in order to get through. There's still a job to be done and it ain't over till its over.

I'd quite like to see Knockaert in the prem, his set pieces were all solid.

Prem teams have a lot to learn from Brighton in terms of set piece quality.

Steve Evans has been sacked by Leeds United, another one bites the dust. On a brighter note, Garry Monk is odds on favorite for the job. Interesting!

I would like him however he's an intelligent guy so can't see him taking it.

Ha..yea, complete circus. If Monk is the next manager, i'd love to see him have a few years at the job, might not get us up straight away but he would eventually i reckon. Who knows though..

Most Leeds fans I know have actually given up hope.

:(

One year contract, doens't bode well for either parties! Chuffed with that signing though!

Not sure most are aware but the season ticket offer is that if we don't make the play offs, 50% of the season ticket price is refunded so something must have to change for this season as our starting 11 isn't good enough to compete with the top half.
