So windows 9?

Looks pretty good, although it looks more like a tweaked 8.1 than a new OS, not necessarily a problem.

I was thinking that as well, you will still get a few people not happy with the Start menu layout but then you can't please everyone, personally I'm not bothered either way,Win9 will be easy to use regardless.

Looks alright, I'd still want to get rid of those tiles and any mention of the "Store" :p

Ditto. I'm expecting there will be one command we'll be able to use to nuke every metro app and hoping the default apps will be set to desktop versions instead of windowed metro apps with an ugly font and UI layout.

Lack of charms will hopefully restore the task menu network info popup back to its former glory.

I'm keen to see how the start menu search behaves in the preview/dev/whatever version later this month/early next.

Why do people hate tiles so much, I don't see the issue?

I think it's because desktop PC users don't expect tiles on PC OS.

Tiles you normally find on phones, tablets etc..

I guess it's the sign of modern times, regardless I adapt without any issues.

I don't use desktop icons either!

Whatever they do I hope they make it so you can do away with the tiles completely, if you choose to, as I Just have zero use for them.

At the moment I'm happy with 8.1 with a start menu replacement - this doesn't make me afraid of change, or have a lack of ability to adapt, or whatever else, I just like using my PC the way I use it.

The start menu should shrink as the tiles are removed. It will look pretty hideous if it doesn't.

Yah do away with tiles, just like you don't have to have any desktop icons. what is your issue?

Lol, small tile is no different to a desktop icon. So that makes no sense AMD some display very useful info.

A desktop icon is typically an .lnk file shortcut, that's if it isn't an actual file stored in the user's Desktop. I have no idea how you think this is the same thing as a live tile.

What has AMD displaying useful info in a live tile got to do with people simply wanting an application and common tasks launcher, and not wanting any info at all in said application launcher?

Small tiles are not live. well they can display a number, but they are literally no different is size or look to a desktop icon.

I like the concept, would be great to be able to see for instance a weather tile just by pressing the start button momentarily without it taking me away from what I was doing (click mouse on the now background but not totally obscured task to get back to it without losing place on what I was doing).

Don't like the appearance of the UI though, something I also hated with 8 - would be nice to get back to a bit like my dark, transparent windows 7 theme which looks 100x more professional if nothing else rather than the ELC style of 8.

Also would be good if it was possible to customise behaviour so if you wish it acted like a fullscreen start menu on a lower res screen/tablet using a lower DPI or as a start menu with higher dpi if you wanted also as well as being able to use it as a start menu on a proper desktop.

Was getting worried, untill he showed the option, use start menu instead of start screen.

Does this mean split screen is gone? It's so quick and useful, compared to resizing windows.

Still don't understand why they just don't allow live tiles on the desktop. I don't get why you need start screen and desktop.
Just desktop which can have live tiles. And customisable taskbar. And allow windows key to either open start menu or show desktop
