Whoa, holy overpriced spider batman!

That's about 4 times what a G rosea is worth, they tend to go for more like £10-£15 as adults :)

My local is doing tanked (aquazoo 3 size) almost-adult C.Roses + all the trimmings for £22.00; so £40 is a bit steep, esp if it's just for the T!!!

Well after following this thread for a couple of months, I have taken the plunge :)

My ickle B. Vagans from easyexotics has just arrived :D

Thanks to Lopez, Lostkat and all the other people that have contributed to this magnificent thread!

Blimey got a lively one here, only been in his new home a couple of hours and we've already got a bit of web and some initial excavations :D

Having a break now though..

What should i keep it in?

i've recently discovered the asda own brand of tupperware :D comes in various sizes to suit any sling-adult. Very cheap (i got a few 20cm wide circular tubs for 38p each) The lid is very secure and i just drill a few holes in the lid and container. perfect !

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww cute :p

lol

I started with a B.Vagans too - they are fairly quiet & a good introduction to the hobby. Maybe too good; I now have 9 T's of 8 species & have at least 5 more species on my must have list :)

That Poecilotheria is just beautiful :)

Got some crickets from the local pet shop yesterday, they looked like they might be a little on the large side. Anyway I dropped one in and it wandered around, had a drink of water, wandered within two inches of Tequila and got killed in the face :D amazing.

Spent the next 5 hours sucking it to a microdot. And became a bit of a porker in the process ;)

Just taken another one, I know B.Vagans is supposed to have an appetite, but this is silly :)

Hello there just thought i would throw my 2p into this wonderful thread.

I've currently got 3 T's.

2 Avic Avic's - 1's about the size of a 2p and the others about an inch and a half.
1 Avic Metallica - still ickle bit smaller than smaller of the avic avic's.

Please don't post any pictures of Ornatas or i may have to hurt you :p. I had to wait the whole of December until i could buy one, and i pop into my fave pet shop and find they've sold all 4 of the ones they had :( .

Oh and i know it's off topic but anyone kept Kenyan Sand Boas? Mine seems to be extremly fat atm despite only having one pinkie in 2 weeks .

Careful you don't mix them up ;)
Okay, here's a little inside info for you. The original scientific description of Avicularia metallica is basically total crap based on colour and virtually nothing else - and colour is not a stable tool for tarantula taxonomy.
So basically, A.metallica may well BE A.avicularia - just a colour variant. The same might well apply for A.geroldi, A.ulrichea, A.braunshaunseni, A.azuraklaasi and a few others I forget. Time will tell, no taxonomist worth their salt is going to touch Avicularia with a barge pole for a long long time as it's a total mess of a genus.

Thomas Vinmann www.vinmann.de has P.ornata in 3 different sizes all at a reasonable price - from his latest list:

Poecilotheria ornata, new offspring, fast-growing, 5€ or 5 for 20€

Poecilotheria ornata, 4-5 cm span, 10€

Poecilotheria ornata, 6-8 cm span, 15€

He understands basic English and ships to the UK, though I think the postage is quite a lot.

What I know about snakes could be scribbled on a particularly small stamp!

Well, I've had two stunning moulters this week, my A. versicolour Louis and my large female P. regalis

I've had Louis since he was a dot, and he's really grown so fast!

in about 10 months is pretty impressive. I also think that 'he' might be a she too, so hopefully within another couple of moults I can mate her and get some awesome green spiderlings :) The only trouble is that I won't want to let any of them go!!

The poecilotheria are my absolute favourite genus, and this female P. regalis my prize specimen at the moment. I bought her about a month ago off a friend of mine. She was beautiful before the moult, but when she stopped eating a couple of weeks ago, I had no idea what a difference it would make. She is absolutely stunning. Vivid contrasting bands all over her, with a purple sheen in places which really stands out in the camera flash. What a beauty!

I came home on Monday night to find her on her back. I always worry about my T's moulting, especially when they're the larger ones, so I decided that if she moulted I would give her an Indian name. I've called her Ramani, which apparently means beautiful.. and she is!

Ramani02

Ramani03

Decided she wanted to come out of her tank to explore... good think she's fairly docile atm

Ramani04

Already have a male lined up for her so hopefully in a few months I'll be hearing the patter of hundreds of tiny feet :)
