So, you want to keep a pet tarantula?

Hi guys,

I've not posted on this thread for a while but I do keep popping in to have a look at what is happening.

Unfortunately I am giving up my collection of T's:( I am moving in whith my friends Julian and Elaine and Elaine is terrified of my lovely pets. She has been round to have a look at them before but she couldn't hack it for more than a few seconds. She is really freaked out about the thought of having them in the same house as her so I am having to let them go unfortunately.

The T's I have are as follows:

Poecilitheria regalis - not sure of sex but due to moult pretty soon so it would be easy to find out. Sub-adult.

Brachypelma smithi - adult female

Psalmopoeus cambridgei - another adult female (has a leg missing but it saves on the footwear bill ;) )

Grammostola rosea - adult male, ready for breeding.

Brachypelma albopilosum - not sure of sex at the moment. Sub-adult

2x Brachypelma vegans spiderlings (about 7 months old, still pretty small)

Usambara orange bitey thing (can't remember the correct name for this:p ) - juvenile unsexed.

I am selling them off pretty cheaply, make me a sensible offer and it's yours.

Lopez - I offered you the regalis once many moons ago. If you want it, you can have first refusal.

Either post in here or email me at [email protected]

I hope this post doesn't break any forum rules. I could always post on a tarantula specific site but I would rather they went to people on the OcUK forums :)

Hi si_sleaf

Shame you have to sell up your collection, have you had them long? But I guess at the end of the day a roof over your head is more important! I have sent you a mail regarding your collection….

It is a shame really, I've had them for almost a year an I've learnt a lot about tarantulas in that time. I'm keeping my praying mantins (he doesn't live in a tank like the spiders, he has his own tree to live in downstairs:D ) and also keeping my gecko. Irrational fear of spiders has cost me my pets:(

HSP70 - you have dibs on the smithi

LostKat/Lopez - dibs on the regalis and the bitey thing

Stoney - Dibs on the rest. Sorry, thes other two guys were up at 5 and 6am sending emails:p

I have to go out now for an interview. I will try to get some photos this afternoon for those that requested them. I will be emailing you all a bit later too:)

Thanks for helping me out here guys.

Phew well after searching through about 15 pages I finally found the post I was after.....

Where was it you got that tank from Lostkat? I'm after one for my P.ornata..

I'd rather not post the number on a public forum, so I'll email it to you. They do not post tanks anymore, so you either have to fetch them yourself (they're near Northampton), or they will bring your order to the next show for you to collect. They'll be at Kettering on 28th March and the BTS show.

What do you have left Si?

I'm thinking of getting something similar to that Lostkat, but not quite the same height as I don't have any arboreals, but it will have four seperate compartments for each of my Ts.

Also, does anyone know what to feed Wax Worms? I brought earlier this week.

The wax worms i've had normally just come in a little yellow tub filled with what looks like wooden shavings, mine have always been fine left in that they last about 3 weeks before they cocoon, i've fed the odd cocooned one to my T's and they still seemed to go down well. What i didn't realise was that they mature into big moths!!! I found a container full of them i'd lost lol!

Been busy over the weekend and have a few new T's to my collection...

a.avicularia_01.jpg

Pinktoe - Avicularia avicularia

p.regalis_02.jpg

Indian Ornamental - Poecilotheria regalis

a.geniculata_01.jpg

Giant Whiteknee - Acanthoscurria geniculata

a.seemanni_01.jpg

Costa Rican Zebra - Aphonopelma seemanni

Great pics and some gorgeous T's there Stoney :)

My next venture is to breed mealworms (personal use only) - just fancied doing something silly until I can find some of the T's that I want :)

My B Vagans has finally emerged after over 3 weeks sealed in it's burrow :D

He finished moulting last week but it took some cricket vibrations to persuade him to emerge (stop frame video of it here DivX codec).

I can't believe how much he's grown! Looks almost double, he was well fat before he went under and didn't eat for two weeks before moulting (I was scared ****less), but he knew what he was doing :D

And much more red and less pink than before:
