Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

Oh I'm depressed - Givenergy have pushed their gen 2 inverters back to April, so will have to wait for my extra charge/discharge rate until then!

Gonna ask my solar guys to fit extra panels and a gen 1 inverter in the meantime I think....

I'm going to be glad to see the back of mine, you can tell they have grown in popularity way too fast. Was happy to recommend them at the start of 2022 (and I did) but since then it has been downhill, they don't respond quickly to issues, getting something done in warranty is taking ages and it seems that some of the staff haven't been well vetted for the roles they have been taken on for.

It is a real shame, as they were a really good choice from the various options out there, and I think once they find their footing again they have good products and ideas, it is just that I am not willing to wait that long, and I feel a bit like a Beta tester some days. :(

What did they quote you for the second install, or have you not had that yet?

I created a thread specifically for posting how much you've generated, which will hopefully return this thread back to a useful guide for those that haven't yet got solar ;)

Yeah, agree with the growth point - think they need to settle down their pipeline or they'll go the way of many British technology firms.....!

To be fair to them, 2022 was a wipe out for most firms trying to manufacture anything so I can give them a bit of leeway for that.

Solar guys are being pretty reasonable as they're apologising for the delay, so sticking to original price (even when I'm adding extra parts).

How you going to feel come spring/summer when your pushing circa 30kwh per day to the grid for free?..
Should be on a feed in tariff by then. More annoyed that I'd over charged over night when I didn't need to, but only a few months in so still learning

We have a plug in hybrid with 18kwh battery (vs 12kwh in the house) but that was parked at the statio while I was in London so not much use. If one of us is at home overage goes into the washing machine / tumble dryer but might have to get a smart switch for the immersion I guess...

That you only use at night :D

I was wondering how useful the whole solar/battery setup is for EV charging if you work away 9-5. Most batteries are pretty small capacity and if you drain it you're left with little for house use. Does it work well in reality?
Another benefit of working from home. During the summer the car is charged via solar.

This time of year though I charge overnight.

Thought I'd check back in on this thread, I ended up going with a national installer for my install. Their pricing was better than the local installers for a like for like system. The quotes I received varied in price by nearly £7k which is just nuts. The lead time was longer but I should be installed in the spring which is fine by me and its not like there is much generation going on right now.

What kit did you go with out of interest?
