Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

which details? to get a solar report they need some details so you can see what it'll be worthwhile getting and then have it priced. Or just call a local installer and ask for a ballpark for say 10 * 400w panels, a 5kw inverter and a 9Kwh battery

I'm fed up of going to Solar Panel sites and I've got to fill my details in.
Can anybody recommend a company where I can just look at average prices without giving all my details?
They need your details to estimate your production etc
Anyway. For 10 panels, inverter and 9kwh battery you'd be looking around 8-8.5k squids.
That is also my setup and also incidentally how much I paid.

This includes scaffolding, installation with bird protection, commissioning and DNO notification.

PS: always get bird protection

I understand the reason why but there could be "FROM" figures on the sites, I've filled 3 forms in and bang they're on the phone within minutes.
It seems the only site with "about" figures is Octopus

I can't recall any of the sites that were close to the quotes we had. The range was quite large as the specs were different. Diff firms proposed diff configurations, brands and numbers of panels, locations etc.

You can also sign up to open solar design site and make your own designs, but it is a bit tricky and had to guess on the other unlisted hardware to fit etc.

You can of course put in fake contact details aside from email.

That's a good idea.

One woman was gobsmacked I didn't want to know what the payback period was.
I said we are pensioners, our house is in Trust for our kids, we have extra money and we're going to put it into the house eg new roof (just done), new double glazing, new garage roof which will take 5x solar panels so we're not bothered about payback figures, when those solar panels are fitted we are on day one.

That's a good price. I paid £11.5k for 9 500W panels, 10kwh battery and inverter

eeek...a bit too late now, but i would've looked to get integrated solar panels if redoing the roof, would've saved a wad of cash and look 10x neater
(savings would've been on the scaffolding costs, extra tiles and fitting)
Are integrated panels cheaper? I would've assumed that integrated panels were a bit more specialist and therefore it would be cheaper to go with the 'normal' roof tiles and lay 'normal' panels on top.

If I get panels on my next house, half of the roof will be rebuilt due to an extension, so might be an opportunity to go integrated?

I've been quoted £4,395 for 10 panels with this spec:

Solar Panels
Trina Solar Co., Ltd.
4.050 kW Total Solar Power
(TSM-450NEG9R.28)

SOLAX X1-BOOST G4

3.68kW of Inverter Power
SolaX Power 1 x X1-BOOST-3.6K-G4

but I've got to add a battery to that, I think he said £2,200.

there is a ‘was of cash’ to be saved but you obviously dont need tiles under the panels so there is some saving to be made.

It’s also less labour to install, well it should be if they don’t put a solar tax on your roof work.

They are generally exactly the same panels, they just use an in roof tray, instead of rails.
what @Ron-ski said

they're cheaper relative to putting a new roof on and then placing the solar panels on top (ie: double work)
if redoing the roof, then one uses the roof tray to mount the panels and the panels form part of the roofing
so... less material needed, one less scaffolding cost and overall less man-hours required for installation

basically the same price what i paid, for PV + one battery
although, i don't know how good the solax inverter is (i've never heard of it before)
and 405w panels are a bit low end nowadays (i've got 440w panels)
so basically not as good value unless they can offer better panels for the same/similar price

So here is the quote to move my inverter and install new hybrid inverter

<snip>

Thoughts???

First thing I noticed was they've quoted for a Gen 2, and not a Gen 3, the later one has some benefits.
If it was a gen 3 it would seem reasonably priced from my quick Google, obviously some mark up, the Gen 3 is £1242 inc Vat at the above link.

Would it take two men a day to alter your existing installation, perhaps not quite a full day.

See what others think, but if the cost is acceptable, push for a Gen 3 inverter at the same cost.

Also its probably a good idea going Givenergy given their Octopus integration.

[edit: I'm pretty sure...] the GivEnergy inverter will only work with GivErnergy batteries and you need a GivErnergy installer to commission them - no DIY I'm afraid (you need access to their installer app).

15 hours of labour is pushing it a bit but the rate isn't excessive, otherwise the price looks fine if its a gen 3 inverter.

Ive noticed a red flag already……quoted for gen 2, sent me data sheet for Gen 3. 15hrs labour does seem excessive to move an inverter, that took 4hrs to fit, including 8 panels and all the roof structure etc etc.

May need to get more quotes
