SOME RYZEN 7 1700 OVERCLOCKING!

It will be good for people to mention the board they are using too. The Asrock B350 board at £100 looks nice.
I think this "beefy VRM" thing that leaked is a bit more blown-up than what is actually true

Gotta sell expensive premium brand boards somehow though right? ;)

In all seriousness though, I don't think anyone had enough time with retail boards and CPU's to say what was/is best, therefore a lot of the early analysis was reported as fact, rather than being a possibly.

Christ what temps are you getting at that oc? I'm at 3.5 using an artic cooler and hitting 70c under full load

Seems excessive heat for that clock compared to all the other 1700's? which cooler is it? did you take all the stickers and stuff off the coolers? what thermal paste and how much voltage are you pumping into the chip? as that surely does not sound correct.

Unfortunately I don't have a 240mm AIO, only really ever used high end air cooling. Will definitely be going for 3.9 once I have a bit of time. Just been playing a bit of FH3, max temp was 52c.

ah thats a shame.

what i really want to see is a clock for clock comparison of the 1800X and the 1700 at 3.9Gz with 3000Mz ram (CL 15 if possible) on the same mobo with a 240mm AIO.
i have a hunch that the lower TDP of the 1700 will yield lower temps. or maybe lower voltage.

if after a stress test this proovs to be the case then it will show the 1700 as the better (not just in cost too)

can someone please try this?
thank you.

that cant be right then, if your putting less than 1.2v into it and getting 70c, somethings not seated right, i'd take the cooler off and check the thermal paste coverage, also check theres no plastic on the underside of the cooler or the chip or anything etc.

its possible he may have a bum chip, but i agree that sounds rather high compaired to what has been said so far.

Still at 3.5ghz but now got the volts down to 1.06v @62c

Something definitely not right with that, even the stock cooler does a better cooling job at those volts i think? something does not sound right, id definitely pull it apart and check everything if it was me, no way id be happy with those temps at those volts, no way.

it could be false temp reporting, zen does use the same sensors as FX did and they were not that reliable.
