SOME RYZEN 7 1700 OVERCLOCKING!

when clocks set to 4.0GHZ constantly, do they still step down when low load and reduce the voltage? Like intel speed step?

Never tested I only care about performance not a few pence in costs or abit of heat on idle. Only max Temps interests me.

1800X is the plug and play chip. Let XFR do its stuff. 1700 is the value option. As for a maturing platform it could go many ways. I think a lot of scope for everything to improve.

Simply question guys. What are people using to read their ryzen temps?

I'm not convinced my BIOS or Asus suite is accurate as its saying its idling at 55c at stock speeds!

The thermal sensor might be working better on different mobo manufacturers, i imagine 8pack has thermal probes to monitor temps since he does extreme overclocking.

That 1700 looks like a great cpu then if ya need the 8 cores for work but want decent gaming performance still. Reminds me of the good old days with AMD where they brought out much cheaper underclocked CPUs which we could then go onto to overclock to better than their top end chips. If the price trend continues their quad cores might be super value for gamers.z

I wasn't sure if I should ask here or open a new thread but here goes.

I know Ryzen is still not even properly out of the doors yet but i thought someone may have a answer

Some people may buy the Ryzen 1700 and then buy a high end board, ram and nvidia 1080 GPU but what are the possibilities on a mid range build, would the system bottle neck and not hit high overclock if a 1080 was not used or high end board and RAM ?

I did have a look onlne but most online review seem to use nvida 1080, high end boards and ram.

No bottleneck

But you need a decent x370 mobo to clock it

I was also thinking 4ghz 24/7.
as I will be upgrading from AM3 I will need to look at both AMD and intel for the best bang for the the buck.

You answered your own question then, AMD if your concerned mainly about price / performance, you are probably looking at longetivity as well I guess?

If so then AMD is the clear winner.

Also @Scramz has a 1700 running on a B350 mortar motherboard at 3.9ghz, stable and cool.

So no, you don't need just the X370 boards, personally though I would wait a week or so for some more board to be rated and tested, it's clear the 1700 is the goto AMD CPU but motherboards are in short supply so not all have been tested yet and hardly any reviewed extensively

I was thinking 1700 but from some review online it seemed i would need to invest more for high end board, cooling, ram & GPU.

From a quick look the intel 7700k has similar price/performance

How often do you upgrade? If your ok with upgrading again in say 2 years the 7700k is solid.

If it's longer then go for the 1700.

Also what is your main use of your PC?

Bought a 1700 and CH6 - got 20% off from a special promo expert.no have. ^^

It seems to be the best combo as well. Will have it under water. XTX360+ XT240 +EVO sup + 1080 + D5.

Really looking forward to test the system! Hoping for 4000mhz at least. ^^

I rarely upgrade the CPU and board once I get the one I wanted unless something amazing comes out, The last time I upgraded the CPU and motherboard was jan 2013, ive added bits over time like larger SSD later and I normally upgrade the GPU every 2 years skipping one model.

I do a bit of everything on the PC, Movies steaming, music, office, multi tasking, Gaming Im not heavy gamer That I need to get the highest FPS and only play a few games (skyrim, DA3, batman, mafia, ext), every so often I do video and photo editing, sometimes music and video converting.
