Sony Bravia 2015 Range...

Any idea when the HD TV's are out (W80C/70C etc)
I'm looking for a new one for a room in the house after shoving the W905 down to the main living room.

Sweet!! Looking forward to it. I'm hoping this range will be close to my W905. Out of curiosity, How are OLED TV's for gaming? May look into one. Maybe even get an OLED TV for the main living room and steal my W905 back for the second room.

If the reviews aren't too great on the new W series I think I may opt for last years W829. I've noticed some places saying the sizes of the new W80c are only 50" but others showing both 50" and 55". Hope they do have a 55".

i spoke to Sony today, i might order this tomorrow or wait for the reviews, it's the same as last years version but with Android..... last years was a brilliant tv, so it's either this or the Samsung 75'' H6400.

both have very good blacks and hardly any backlight bleed or uniformity issues, they're much better than the LEDs from a few years ago.

how does it compare to the Plasma, the Plasma has better blacks and better screen uniformity, but not by much, both these TVs get great reviews and of course are much bigger than mine.

i've been looking at loads of LEDs recently and they look miles better than 3 years ago, but you still run the risk of buying one with backlight issues at night........... you'll either get a really good TV or one that needs sending back.

I'm looking forward to the X85 series reviews, they seem quite reasonably priced for 4k TVs so I might be tempted if they get reviews like the W829 did.

the X85 at 65'' is pretty good at 2700 quid and it looks really nice too, plus it's FLAT ;)

but take care if you're only after 1080p , because all of Sammys new tvs are all 4K

Didn't Sony's top of the line HD TV get a poor review compared to the lesser model W829? I think that's why I was opting for that one before hearing about the new line up.

the 4k 75'' is unavailable in the X85 format, yes it'll blow you away it'll look awesome, but it'll have 2 problems

1.......1080p content will be upscaled to 4K with loads of detailing missing, so it wont look as crisp and beautiful as a full 1080p only tv...it'll look even worst from a 1080i source (BBC HD)......i've seen this problem quite a lot recently......enough said

2..... any one of these tvs might have a backlight issue, just keep your fingers crossed that it's not yours

i need to see last years version so it looks like another trip to Currys :(

Went in to Currys last weekend. I appreciate the store conditions don't reflect what they would be like at home, but I took in a USB stick with a 1080p MKV movie on to try on;

  • a ~50" LG 1080p OLED
  • a 65" 4K Sony (outgoing gen)

Honestly, the upscaling on the Sony was fantastic, to my eyes, the resolution and clarity was actually better than the 1080p LG OLED.

Duly noted on back lighting, I guess its the luck of the draw unfortunately.

ok very disappointing, the Sony LED 1080P looked really bad, they all did.

1.....the Prime Minster travelling to No10 viewed from a helicopter looked dreadful, the whole image was blurred....on all of them

2.....the PMs face was just a blob, you couldn't see his chin, the tvs have no detailing/texturing or true contrast at all in the faces/ clothing or in the brickwork behind ( PMs speech) they look really bad compared to my Plasma.

but on a very good note the Sony 4K ( last years) looks brilliant on 4K, as good as the OLED, it also looks way better than the other rubbish on 1080i BBC.............my guess is this tv has a far better panel and way superior processing power............ this SONY 4K was only £800 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think it was 55'' not sure, but i can find out for you

conclusion, it's either a 65'' Panasonic or a 65'' 4K Flat, but the 65'' OLED costs 6 grand ...........( all the 4K tvs look good, so you can deffo get a bargain )

Or maybe the feed to the HD TV's was intentionally bad to make potential buyers look closer at the 4k TV's they need to shift before the new models appear.

could be, because i dont understand how they can give these tvs such good reviews when they look so obviously bad.

it could also be that there's a massive difference with the TV on ``Dynamic factory`` settings, than after a careful DIY Calibration at home........... but even so, i'm still suspicious because if i put my TV on Dynamic it still looks pretty good, LED has way too much brightness, so maybe it's blinding out the detailing and texturing and will be ok at home......not sure

4K displays a far superior 1080p image, so the most important thing to google is maybe ``4k Upscaling, which tv is best``

I think that is why people always recommend getting into a store that has a viewing area so you only get that TV to look at. Good idea on doing what someone suggested and that was taking in your own video clips to compare.

the top image is great, but it looked nothing like that today, it looked more like the lower image, a sort of light saturation.........every single tv looked a bit like that, but the PMs black car in Downing St looked good

so if your LED looks like the top image ;) please post in.

What picture mode do view your TV in?

my Plasma is True cinema with a high contrast.... but the LEDs i dont know, they wouldn't let me adjust them and didn't like my questions, they got pretty fed up with me, they only helped if i was looking at the 4Ks
