Sony XF90

Are these 9005 still worth buying? I keep looking at the AF9 but these have dropped to a good price now.

They’re the best affordable FALD sets, so yes. If you only need 55” though I’d say the price difference to OLED is worth it, but at 65” they’re quite sensibly priced.

If there’s even a vague chance you can stretch to an OLED though, maybe on Black Friday - just do that. I have 65XE from last year and its fantastic, but OLED absolutely destroys it.

Just sold my 65W955B so I think ordering one of these is on the cards! Anyone know of any better deal than the current JL/Richer pricing for the 65"?

have you discarded/seen a Panasonic fx740/50 ?, they seem competitively priced @65, maybe because they are late to market and seem to have negligible reviews. (hdtvtest/french sites/not in usa market...)

I dont't buy into the motion problems, will just be like predecessor I own, where you turn that control to lowest setting ...
but seeing one in the flesh should answer questions.

had a look at the 65NU8000 in John lewis today it looked superb too my eyes i thought it was a Qled at first the very expensive oleds aside it looked one of the best on display, pity there wasn't a 65XF9005 on display too compare but is it 500 - 600 quid better  it's fair old chunk of cash that.

NU8000 is the best Value for money tv right now

it's also one of the best gaming tv's.

also for FALD there is the Q6FN which is only slightly better than the NU8000 so I personally don't think it's worth the extra but it sits inbetween both the NU8000 and XF90 very nicely.

personally for me the NU8000 is the tv to buy. then buy again in say 5 years time (when the warranty runs out) rather than spend 50% more and not upgrade for say 7-10 years.

this means you will keep up to date with newest tech and have the latest updates, etc.

NU8000 is still a very very good tv.

although avoid the 49" as it's only 60hz refresh rate the others are 120hz

is the sony better? yes. will the average person be able to tell the difference? most likely no unless you owned a plasma in the past.

i would go with the samsung the money saved you can put towards your next tv in 5 years time

Cheers for that. I still have the 8599 and just fancy something that can upscale sky q a bit better. I can afford the af9 but just wasn’t sure if it was worth the premium (twice as much)

I got a 49 inch version, had my eye on an OLED for months but decided the 55 was just a little too big.

It’s obviously no OLED but really impressed with the picture quality. Android TV isn’t great is my biggest bug bear with it.

Panasonic aren't regarded very well any more. Some are okay but on the whole not that great. I'd go with something that's been reviewed properly
I was begging the question
- 'their' oleds are top ... so why are they not back in the USA ... along with lcd bretheren ... so they would all, then , have decent rtings reviews.

thery don't have the panasonic 740/780 in the usa
subsequently saw 740 is the currys' non-fald one, so 780 is the xf9 competitor

Always thought you'd go OLED the next time around. Costco is selling the 65" XF90 for £1320 at the moment though.
Yeah I thought so too but I just couldn't stretch to the OLED price. Ended up paying under a grand for the 65" after selling my old stuff and the sound bar that came with it so I couldn't justify double that. Not to myself and damn sure not to the Mrs :p

I feel you. I haven't seen the XF90 in person, but I struggle to believe that the LG C8 is worth £1000 more. The reviewers on AVForums rate the XF90 very highly (apart from the crap OS), so it almost certainly isn't worth it.

Enjoy, I'm jealous! I haven't managed to win this argument, yet ;)

Haha thanks! I am loving it, it's a great set that I am still getting to grips with but the OS really isn't bad. I think it's had some updates since those reviews. There is word it may get an Oreo update at some point too.

I won this argument because she wants a new car next year so I managed some emotional blackmail :D

My XF90 recently stopped taking commands from the remote control, apart from voice... that still worked as it is via bluetooth.

Despite a long chat with Sony and them agreeing it sounded like the IR controller on the TV side, they still managed to simply order a remote.

Fortunately when calling the company who was coming to do the warranty work, he mentioned a remote had been ordered. I told them the full story (like I had with Sony) and also agreed IR controller on the TV side.

Parts ordered, and the week after the chap came out and swapped the parts.

It's been perfect since. Not too happy with a fault after 4 months, but apparently IR boards very rarely go on any brand. Just my luck I guess!
